North Dakota Jobs??

Housing is essentially non-existant in ND right now. Want to visit? Forget it. There isn't a single hotel room that is open on an average night. I have family there that has been approached about converting their shed into housing. That is pretty desperate. And like has been mentioned already, cost of living supplies has gone up. Even McDonalds because you can make 20/hr as a starting wage worker there. To make up for that they have driven up the prices.

Don't expect an open door either. They are starting to get annoyed at the influx of people that have stressed the system and made life crammed (at least by ND standards). Just a warning.

ill make it happen. theres employers that offer housing as well. obviouslysuch a modern day gold rush ( oil ) is going to compensate for housing or shelter in some way.

people getting annoyed is no problem for me. when i was selling kirbys i would knock doors in the same neighborhood for a week. talking to the same people i talked to the day before. persistance got me those appointments and sales.

in terms of working, and cash in their face, it would be cake for me.

snowmobilesrme;2941411...if i go there personally said:
hmmm...well then..don;t forget to forward where you are to Momma and Papa and you all learn the closest Western Union office,
otherwise your going to be one hungry fella..

Lol, why do you need anyone's help here? Seems your pretty capable of doing stuff yourself.

..."there's a 2 bedroom apartment right now for $425 a month. thats half of what it costs to live where i live right now."

Oh really??? Here in Idaho Falls, ID. (Home office for snowest mag.), unfurnished studios are going for $350-400 mth...Depressed economy, with no oil boom,& no jobs....But in ND, where word has it that folks are camping out in city parks, living in Walmart's parking lot & cleaning up in their bathrooms because of a housing shortage, that there's a 2 bedroom apt. for $425???
I don't think so bud. But then again, yer only in your 20's...the stench of reality that's called life hasn't affected you yet..But good luck anyway.

like i said i have income coming in from my other job, as it follows me wherever i go. in other words, food wont be a problem.

i was asking for simple advice of who to go to, or if any fellow snowesters knew of anyone that was hiring in the mentioned area. ( anywhere in ND where the jobs are booming )

i sense a negative vibe coming from your response. if you have nothing nice to say, dont say it at all. im pretty sure your mother taught you that.

as far as finding a place to stay, im pretty sure if i can manage. if i cant manage right away, i will still have no choice but to make myself manage.

so the only thing i was trying to gather was some helpful information about jobs. i had gathered helpful information from a fellow snowester, not of this thread, and not of the thread in the Dakotas section. well, miko gave me some helpful info, so thanks miko for that.

okay, so this:

http://nd.craigslist.org/apa/2769910896.html

is in st. marie montana, about 2.5 hrs from the oil fields. i understand thats quite the drive.

ive been on my own since as soon as i graduated, so i do know my fair share about what lifes about. trust me, ive experienced alot for my age. please just accept it, and trust me on that, im not in the mood to go into great detail right at the moment. im not here to argue about how grown up i am. just know, im very grown up for my age, and it would be pointless to express your doubts, because you dont know me, and i can tell you anything online whether you end up believing me or not.

but guess what? they have to be compensating for the housing shortage with at least shelters. a good number of jobs i came across provide housing. so like i said, housing isnt the issue for me. theres many options the way i see it.

i like how this thread has gone in completely different direction. haha. its okay though, its entertaining.

Okay, I wont even be rude, but the question must be asked, are you willing to drive 5 hours a day just to get to and from a job???

I feel like the phrase work smarter not harder applies here. If you work 10 hour days that instantly becomes 15 hours. So you figure even if typically you make 50$ an hour it comes down to 33 or if you make $20 it becomes $13 not including the extra gas you gotta burn.

Perhaps it'd be a good investment to buy a pickup and get one of those nifty pickup bed trailer things you could mebe live in? Sounds loads better than trying to drive 5 hours a day.

i worked 10-14 hrs a day 6 days a week. i think i can manage. and i didnt say i was getting that place in montana... it was just a place i saw, somewhat in the area of the oil fields. ill manage dont worry. i know youre concerned about my well being and everything, but i assure you, im a big boy now.

I'd say you read that wrong. More like 425 a week. People are paying 300 a week for a 10 x 10 room Houses are renting for a 1000 a month by the bedroom. 3 bedroom = 3000

the link i provided definitely says $425 a month. either you didnt read it at all, or you only read a few sentences. lol

Just a little input from the central part of the state, As far as cost of living, it sucks! Groceries have gone up at least 25% in the last 2 years in the Minot area. One stop at Walmart with a cart full will give you sticker shock. Labor rates for all services like auto repair and home repairs have went through the roof as Owners raise rates to cover higher wages they pay out so their employees don't leave for oil related jobs. Housing is a double screw job do to housing shortages from the oil boom, and then the flood wiping out the whole river valley this summer. The area that was flooded affected a lot of rental properties and even a few hotels. Alot of those apartments would normally house University students, so that even put more demand on the area. I live east of all the activity, but it has effected our town also. Every empty lot in this old town seems to have been bought up by people trying to get an affortable home set up or by oil related people traveling farther to find a place to live. The cost of living is really hurting our elderly living on fixed incomes. Because property values have went up, so have propety taxes. People that are retired living in a house that was paid for now can't afford the tax increases. Prosperity? Bullcrap! If you are not making more money directly from the oil boom, then it is just making things worse for the locals.

Have you ever driven this strech of road in the winter? There are usually days where this is not even open to traffic due to the blowing/drifting snow. Why don't you just take your car out, start sleeping in it and try and ind a job. I will bet money you have never seen a winter like living in a car in Western ND or Eastern MT in the middle of winter.

correct. well luckily for me a lot of these employers have provided housing. the one im looking at is 2 weeks on 1 week off. if i have to live in a car i will live in a car.

hell, ill sleep on site in a connex box or in a portable office. or ill gather material, and build a little 3x6 ft shack. less heating space, wouldnt be that hard to keep warm... i was sleeping in my RV with a broken furnace in 7 degree temps for a week i kept warm.

soon. and i just found some contacts with my travel company its exploding fas as well in fargo, minot, and a couple other places. for these guys that work a couple weeks on 1 off ill be hooking them up with luxury vacations for less than a days worth of work. pretty excited.

and with fellow reps living in these places, our company is like a 500,000 person family. they'll help me out if its needed.
