New track design

Robbie I'm guessing you will be making drivers for this track to fit the axys? Will they need to be smaller then 7 tooth ?
 
They are the same size as the 7 tooth 3" pitch drivers. They are 6 tooth. The gearing shouldn't change when changing pitches. I've already made drivers for this track. The Ski Do ones are on my site. I've got a pair of drivers here for the Polaris belt drive shaft in center drive configuration. I'll have all the makes and options shortly.
 
They are going to make this track in a 3.5" pitch. You'll get the benefit of a wider pitch track and light weight. It will have the normal 6 rows of drive lugs on it. It won't have the problems that the Polaris track has.
3.5? The other info says it's supposed to be 3.0 pitch
 
Just wait, they will be making an announcement on the 3.5" pitch option. Even lighter and more efficient.

Robbie what are your thoughts on how the 3.5" pitch when running a turbo? Do you think the benefits of a larger pitch will be even greater or will they be diminished?
 
Here’s the theory on the wider pitch. When a track is in operation a paddle leaves the driver and enters the snow. It will then start pushing on the snow to make the sled go forward. In powder snow conditions, it slips and starts compacting the snow, by pushing the snow rearward. There will be a point where this compaction will be enough to move the sled ahead. In really soft snow the paddle will push until it reaches the point where the paddle before it has already removed the snow. Since there is no longer any snow at this point the whole track will drop down somewhat and the paddles will continue working.

Visualize what would happen with a .5” pitch track. The paddles would only have to slip .5” and the track would start to sink. It is certain that with 3.5” between each row of paddles there would be much more compaction.

For any given track length, there will be fewer rows of paddles. This will make the track lighter. The paddle design itself has to be more robust as each set of paddles will be doing more work.

As an additional benefit, I can make the anti-ratchet points a little longer.

Ski Do has opted for this pitch, so they must think that there is something to be gained by the new pitch.
 
I like that you can make the anti-ratchet points longer, looking very hard at this track.. want to see it in person before I buy it. Bobbie coming from the 2.6 track belt drive won't a person be gearing up a bit. ? Going to the 3.5" pitch 6 tooth.

No they are basically the same size. 3.5*6=21 and 7*3=21
 
Starting from the 7 tooth 2.86" pitch that the belt drive axys has, then going to 7 tooth 3" pitch or 6 tooth 3.5" pitch., this would be gearing up a bit? Or am I wrong.
 
Axys with quick drive are 2.23 final ratio. So with 3.5" pitch 6 tooth it will probably be around 2.14 final ratio. Just a guess. I'm sure some who knows how to do the math will post the proper ratio.

That's pretty close to the ratio I came up with. 1.95/.92=2.13 rounded up.
 
I wonder how this track will compare to the x3 for straight up traction? I imagine the first year out, this thing will have a pretty high price point too....
