New to Colorado Springs, looking for riding near by

So I just moved out here from Bend, OR and looking for places to ride. From what I've seen so far most of the riding is 2+ hours away? Is this true, if so the sled might be going up for sell. I'm used to having a 20 minute drive to ride and just can't justify spending the fuel to drive so far just to ride.

Colorado usually has pretty good fuel prices, so there's that.

Plus, what else are you gonna do? Dirt bike would be about it.

Springs ain't the most happening place.

I've been dirt biking a few times since I moved here, it's still dusty :face-icon-small-fro. I'm coming to realize that the Springs are not the place to be but most of the towns with riding near by do not offer much in the way of jobs. I work in procurement and purchasing of raw materials, so I need to be somewhere that has manufacturing jobs.

CO riding

Welcome to CS, CO. The nearest place is Ophir Creek south of Pueblo. 90 minutes and no ski traffic. Next is Cottonwood and it is 2 hrs. There is a local club Pikes Peak Highriders. Look us up on the web or the Colorado Snowmobile Assn web site. Would be glad to show you around.

Yeah, it sucks driving to go ride, but the riding is worth it... once there is enough snow.
3-ish hours will get you to Rabbit Ears and Crested Butte areas and Vail.
I honestly don't mind, and go every weekend I possibly can.
Drop me a line if you want to go ride. Heading out this weekend to see what I can find near Crested Butte.

You not like Cottonwood, or just looking for more snow?

Anyways, 99% i'll be somewhere this weekend, and CB is always on the menu.

Thanks for the offers, I'll definitely be in touch with you about going riding. I currently have plans for this weekend, but after the holidays I will be free.

Cottonwood in low snow is evil with trees and rocks, its one of my favorite places but only with good snow. Has it snowed a bunch there in the last few weeks?

Don't think it has.

That's why I was asking, and wishful thinking on my part. I'm all the way out on the Kansas line, so hate to go over the divide for a weekend trip.

NOAA acts like Rabbit and maybe Grand will get the most snow this weekend? Vail maybe too?

Hey!!! I'm in Crested Butte right meow. F@ck the Crested Butte snow reports. Kebler Pass has snow over the hood. It's epic unless you're an absolute snow snob. I rode with four other dudes banging hills/trees whatever. It's fresh pow. Going back tomorrow. Staying in Almont.
Text me 719.232.1487 if you want to go wreck sh:t.
It's worth the drive. I'm cereal.
Not trying to jack dudes off or any wierdo ****. I just want to have a crew out here and see carnage and ride.

You riding sunday? Unless I blow off some work stuff early sat. mourning, I wouldn't be there until afternoon. I'll holler if I come up, I got a 620 number.

And thanks for the shout out!

I'm a sled newb, but not found of frozen handjoes, so we should be alright!

Come on Stingray, load up them Vipers!

Lmao
I have a few local cats I'm gonna call in the AM to rally with. If you can no sh-t make it up here I'll stick around for Sunday and get de-nutted by my wife.
Expect a text from me. Supposed to start snowing again here Saturday night so it might be worth sticking around.

Was good to meet Rabbit today. He's good people, would probably be a sled buried all winter if he didn't stop to help them. Kid found a creek bottom.

Then he got help dig me out a couple times. And i shortened up the ride by finding a rock. Got the A arm, at first we couldn't find the impact point. Then we saw bottom of ski, hit was carbide area. Talked about it later, and we're wondering if a hard rod might have not got caught.

Drove up to Denny Creek today and the snow looked so bad we didn't off load and went to Pando/Camp Hale. Wasn't much for snow there either.

Sorry your ride experience was extremely limited, Capulin... Get rid of those carbide runners. I don't use them for that very reason.

Crested Butte was getting straight hammered by the time I left. Visibility was awful on Sunday. It was a rough day. I did three days of riding, and by the last day, I was pretty beat down.
You know how it gets when you're trying to ride technical sh*t but you're just too tired to put the effort into it? That's when you smack trees. And that's what I did. I tore off a hand guard and about ripped my leg off. All in all, considering the snowfall we've had this season, it was a pretty good weekend and a busted handguard ain't that bad at all.

Snow is getting better. By the time I left, there was enough soft and fluffy to stuff an a-arm on a downhill and snowplow down a hill and have snow coming over the hood. No intake bog like all the negative nancies said I'd get with my modded intake. Suck it. I was rallying fallen tree bumps in the thick stuff. Met some great dudes to ride with next time I'm out that way. There are some talented guys out at Crested Butte. Lucked out and didn't find anything solid like Capulin did. Logged about 110 miles of off-trail riding. I am tired.

Did you pull the sled apart yet, or are you taking it to the dealer?

I might head up to Rabbit Ears to meet some buddies this weekend depending on how they say the snow is out there by then. If Rabbit Ears/Steamboat area is lacking, I will go back to Crested Butte and not think twice about it. Should be great conditions by then and plenty of good stucks in the trees.

If anyone needs a riding partner, drop me a line... same number as above. I'm not Rasmussen/Burandt level rider, but I can get you into trouble if that's what you want.

Arms are $190 a side from Ski-doo. Will mail order, and fix myself. Far as I know it's just the arm, and everything else is alright?

Plan is to get an extra pair and carry in pickup, could always sell later.

I'll have to get in gear and fix sled if I'm gonna make it up before the end of the year.

The way the locals were coming out of the woodwork sunday mourning, I bet there will be lots of folks riding CB this week.

Skiers say Winter Park has been better than most places. Wonder how Corona is doing?

I'll holler anytime I come up, and for sure will be at CB again.
