New RK Tek User results thread

I have the rktek drop in kit in my switchback assault 2011 ...My stock engine was still running good but only 112 psi on mag side 125 psi on the clutch side. Sled have 2500 miles. Cylinder are in good condition. 60 miles now with the kit at 1000 ft altittude 12.5:1 head. Engine was pulling 8200 rpm stock and 8600 rpm with drop in kit, Non ethanol plug. Now i add 2 gram to my dalton weight and switch to ethonol plug and engine pull 8350-8400 rpm. I think that the drop in kit is lean with non-ethanol plug so I add 5 % fuel by switch to ethanol plug.

I guess I could add..

My negative experience with RKTEK's kit:

Piston pin clips suk to install
Very hard to heat soak it cause it wont get hot
Arms fall off after repeated wot pulls
Not having to buy a cool PC-V with autotune function "I wanted it"
SLP exhaust wont improve performance "I wanted that too"

Damn you Kelsey!

lol! SLP exhaust does improve performance dramatically tho when "stacked" with the drop in kit... have multiple sleds with just the drop in kit, just the pipe set and now a few like mine with both and it is a pretty big difference

Guys with these kits installed, can you also share your clutching and boondoker # with elevation. I realize some guys are running no controller and some are.
Tks

what elevation.will slp exhaust and drop in kit work better than just drop in kit at 0-3000 feet?

you will have to run race gas at that elevation unless you are running his low compression head even then you may still need some. we ride 5-9k feet and leaving the truck its pretty easy to hit the det sensor until you get up to the 5500-6k+ range.
difference is def. worth the extra coin tho!

What year is yer sled? Kelsey told me that costumers were having det issues at low throttle settings at high altuide, he said it's actually lean not det, but still setting of the det alarm, that's why now especially with the 13s he's recommending usin a fuel controller. He said the 13 have a different map than previous and its leaner. Kelsey has only 1 pro this year and it's big bored so he's relying on costumers to give him feed back with the drop in kit.

This was taken from the other thread and posted it here.

No I did not go with a fuel box. For me the way its running, its very close. Plugs look great not to lean or to rich but nearly spot on. No detonation issues at all with the 13.1 domes at 2500ft. Running 91 octane with the non ethanol plug.
The heaviest weights I have is 66 gram polaris weights so I played around with the MTX and added weights to them instead. In the mountains I try to test with pol weights 66, 64 grams or 62.

Clutching is as follows so far at 2500 ft

Primary stock spring
MTX 68 gram weights with 4 grams in mid hole and 2 grams outer hole.
Secondary tied team with 160-260 black white spring (this could change to a 140-240 red black or a 160-240 black purple spring later.)
Helix 73-61.46 with 2 derlin washers and .70 spacer between snap ring and cup holder.

Now i have no setup for higher elev yet but hope to in a few weeks time

I know Kelsey recommends stock polaris weights and maybe he can comment on why he feels this way but In the minimal testing that i have done, it seems that his dropin kits responds very well to heavy heel weights. Now I have not tried them up at high elevations but at 2500 ft they sure seemed to work well for me.

To me it feels like these kits have a lot stronger midrange pull and topend pull then the stock motor. Right now I have loaded up the MTX heavy in the middle hole and still have over rev issues so next thing to try is a steeper initial angle helix. ( running a 73-63-.46 right now maybe need a 75 or a 77 initial.) These kits on my motor anyways really pulls strong at 8300 to 8500 rpm so make sure you clutch for this.
Other thing I noticed is that when you are on a trail WOT and pull off in to deeper snow the sled does not loose as much speed as before. These kits seem to pull better in the deep snow then the stock engine did.
Maybe its just me but this is what I noticed .

my sled is a 13, have 10-15 kits on the snow this year in everything from 2011's with just the drop in kit, to 2012's with just the drop in, 11's and 12's with drop in and pipe set up, unfortunately all of my 13's are running pipe and drop in set up mainly because the combo works so well together, so i have no input on running just the drop in kit on the 13, i'll let somebody body else do the R&D on that. I'm running the 13.5 heads on all of my kits

What fuel controller are you using?

Today i do some clutch testing and now I add 6,9 gram of weight over my stock setup ,,,and rpm is always above 8200, engine pull very strong.

After hearing all of these positive reviews, I can't wait for my kit to show up, their currently out of stock, waiting for a piston shipment. I was hoping to have it for the Christmas break :(

there's a reason kelsey's out of pistons, these kits are legit and selling like hot cakes this year! it will be worth the wait

Are you using SLP map with PCV. If so which map?

Kelsey,

For someone who wants your drop in kit and wants to go with the stock cheater head option.... Do you supply an complete new head with the domes or does a guy have to supply his head to get machined???
Also is there any performance difference between the cheater head and the billet head??

Thx,

Lindy
