New gun?

Buy used with no paperwork...............and at least 10,000 rounds of ammo..;)

what states can a guy get a gun and not have to register it?
The only guns you can buy without registering are second hand from a private seller. And you're still "supposed" to register those, but its volunatry.

If Osama gets his way and a $0.05 per round tax is added on hand gun ammunition and "certain assault rifle" ammunition, the best thing to do right now is buy as much ammo as you can. And buy supplies for reloading since there are rumblings about making reloading illegal.

better shoot myself in the head now before they take away my guns. If I wait too long I guess Ill have to just drill a hole in my head with the good ol dewalt!

I've got 750 rnds of .223, couple boxes of 7 mag, and 500 rnds of .22lr, but at .22 stock will last about a weekend.

BTW-I bet Thompson Center will be making a killing, buy one frame, then accessories to swap calibers, so really I have 1 gun in a T/C, but are really 17 different rifles/pistols combos.

Actually in most states they are NOT registered.

HOWEVER in all states to purchase from any FFL holder they must perform a federal background check before purchase. This is the paperwork you fill out at the store. After that it is subject to state and local regulations.

The store is then required to retain that document for I believe 6yrs (might be less I'm not sure) After that time by federal law they are supposed to be destroyed. This is for the use in investigating gun crimes which is BS and they are almost never used in a crime unless they've already been stolen once, but from time to time it does happen, most times it is in cases of self defense or domestic violence. Once a gun is used in a crime and recovered they run the serial number through the manf. database, then the wholesaler, to the store. If it is within the time frame they get a copy from the store and see who it was sold to. Then it is up to Law enforcement to prove what happened after it left the store.

OUCH:

If you want any information on purchasing guns in MN, PM me and I can give you the rundown, as I used to sell guns when I lived there.

Question to all you gun nuts? I want to buy a 22 cal hand gun to take with me fishing, four wheeling, and snowmobiling. I want to teach my sons how to shoot with a hand gun. I want the 22 so I can shoot the $hit out of it for semi cheap. Any suggestions?

Semi Autos

Browning Buck mark
Ruger MK II
Beretta Neos U22

Revolvers I'd say a Taurus

All come in many variations for reasonable prices.

Glock 17 with an Advantage Arms 22lr conversion kits.

Well if you want to get fancy you can go with a kimber 1911 and add their 22lr conversion kit. :D

Just yanking your chain Sup

But you do make a good point that way you can have a dual purpose weapon.

I really considered the 1911 22 conversion, but it just didn't make as much sense as a Glock Conversion.

And after sending countless bricks of 22 through my G17 22lr, I have more then made up for the cost of the conversion.

and just for conversations sake, I was dead set on buying a Buckmark 22 pistol until I picked up the conversion. Thought I'd give it a try. I haven't even considered anything else since. Am now in the market for at least one more conversion (they even make 22lr conversions that run reliably on the AR platform now). Only problem is that since Advantage Arms is based in Commifornia they only make a 10 round magazine for them. Makes it a PITA sometimes when just plinking.

That and they tend to send you the wrong spare mag when ordered as well...

What conversion are you talking about. I need to go down to the gun store and get educated again! Thanks for the advice
Advantage Arms .22lr conversion kit. They make them for all models of glock and 1911. It is the only conversion kit I have any direct experience with and it runs good, even running the cheap federal ammo you're not supposed to use through it.

I ordered from topglock, was a "meh" experience. Don't know if I will repeat from them or try some other dealer. The LE model will actually fit in the same holster as the standard 9mm slide so you can practice draws and whatnot. The target model will not.

edit:

I'll probably try these guys next - http://www.22lrconversions.com/glk-inf.htm since they have 15 round .22lr mags. I don't recall if the Advantage Arms has the last round slide lock feature, but the JAC one says flat out that it -will not- hold the slide open due to their magazine design.

I've had 3 different Ruger Mk II. Down to one now. For the money in a 22LR they are hard to beat in my opinion. Of the 3 that I have personally owned and the many I have shot I have never had a single problem with any of them.
