NEW custom decks

price is the biggest deal for me and most people i know. I'm no welder/fab pro, but as a lowly diesel tech with plenty of fab time on trucks, equipment, locos, and crushers, i know enough to tell that the price of most new decks is an all out prison style a$$ raping. figuratively speaking, never been there myself.

like i have said before...the price is also a HUGE concern of mine, a fair price for materials, consumables, and labor/time will be charged. If anyone has any questions or is interested in my work, please call me at (509)629-0859

My main goal in the design and construction of these decks is to meet the needs of the snowmobiler. Not hang all the "fancy" sh#t off them, but make them a QUALITY built piece that is versatile enough to work for about anybody. Hauling ATV's or sleds, goin on lifted or stock pickups, user friendly and most of all CUSTOM built. If there is somethin that you specifically want on yours, but dont like something else, just let me know and it can be done. I think the sliding sides will most likely be a "option" for those that want it, but we'll have to see on how everyone likes them. I have a fairly good design for that, but thats another story...they will definately be lit up, clearance lights, markers, tails/turns, and the work lights is a great way to go. They would probably be wired into the harness, and up to the customer to either use them as backup lights off the trailer plugin or wire them to a switch. All lights will be wired inot a harness to plug in to your trailer plugin. Headboards optional. Materials...the decks will be aluminum...powdercoat an option, as well as bedlining the deck itself. I can do the deck either with .125'' diamond plate, or treated plywood. Telescoping ramps or two piece ramps will be available. Guys, i want to build the deck that the customer wants, "to each his own", if theres something you want, let me know.

I too am a fab guy. I want mine to be lit on the inside of the box. I also want mine to have a sliding tray under the stored ramp. This way i dont have to crawl into my box to get my beer! When can I place my order?

As stated before, price is huge. Bought a used silver lake deck and after getting it home and looking it over, man, there's nothing to them. I know it takes time and materials, etc...and whoever is building them needs to be compensated. But for such a simple idea, they should be in the 1500.00 range. I mean, it's basically an 8x8 trailer with legs on it.

Easy loading for these guys scared of the ramp???

I have an 11' ramp that works beautifully. The actual ramp is 8' and can be used like that. I have a 3' extension for it, and it is plenty strong. I like that setup myself. Reversible ramps so they can be used for quads too is a great idea.

Gerry Can holders are a good idea. The sliding drawer is a great idea, but I think it would add too much weight for my liking. We use a pike poll from a sawmill to grab stuff from the front. That way the deck is light enough I can load it from the ground by myself.

The rearward facing lights are a great idea. I need some for my deck. I am also going to weld tabs to mount four lights facing forward.

I wouldn't care about super clamps, but good spots for tie downs is a must.

What are you thinking for holding the deck into the truck? I use ratchetting tie downs on the inside, using the factory tie downs in the corners.

You might want to think about putting something on the bottom of the deck to avoid paint scratching, for those that worry about the pickup box paint.

$1500 is a great price for a deck. I have way more than that into modifying my deck. that's all I have for you now. Good luck to you.

I wasn't kidding with the power deck. I currently have one. It is 2x convenient as any fixed deck is out there. Plus I get the full use of my under deck storage and I don't hassle with ramp setup or storage. It is a very simple, light and effective design which can be made very affordable. An outfit in Canada was building them but I think they quit. Maybe I should start building them?

I have been thinking of how to build a single place rack for my Tacoma 6 ft box, I would love to see a deck for the mid size truck market.

My Tacoma will take 1500 lbs in the bed so a sled and deck should be no problem.

Well guys, im in the process of trying to get some other projects out of the way, and get set up to get these built. As of right now, i will build the first one and get some pics up and see if it sells, and go from there. I wont be able to stock an inventory or different decks for now, but as far as build to order goes, i think thats how we'll have to get goin. Ill let everyone know when i get the first one done, and what the final price is...

Call Jake with west coast metals in Dalton Gardens, Idaho...not sure why he quit building them a number of years ago but perhaps he could give you some insight on why it didnt work out for him...Good Luck!

Couple questions for everyone: What widths would you guys be looking at for the expandable sides? Narrow width and wide width? We talking 8x8 overall or what?

Tyrin to figure out the ramps, quick question. Would everyone rather have folding or 2 piece ramps?

2 piece for sure. I love how mine is built. I have an 8 foot ramp that slides into the bottom of the deck, over my tail gate. Then I have a 3 foot piece I can throw on the floor of my box, or where ever so I still have all my storage space. That storage space is key for me, especially when I'm hauling four guys, all our stuff, and fuel for a four day trip.
