need advice from senior riders....

I have been back and forth about a this question for a while and I think I finally have my decision but would like the input from some more advanced riders. What to get this year: A brand new 2008 M8 Sno Pro 153" that I can get for 9000 or a used 2006 Skido summit 151" with 1500 miles for 6000.
Here is the criteria:
-I have been riding for about two years. I had a 2006 arctic cat m7 153".
-All my friends ride arctic cat.
-My good friend is an arctic cat mechanic.
-One of my other friends is the Arctic Cat dealer in town.
-I am more of a Boondocking style of rider. Hill climbs are fun but i am no
highmarker.
-The Ski Doo dealer in town is non existent.

What I've heard about the Rev: great power, great for jumping, light. Parts are expensive and if i do find a tree it won't be pretty...

What the M brings to the table: good all around sled and I can get parts cheap and if i break down all my friends will have parts in the trailer. Great fox suspension. I am used to the m chassis.

money isn't really the issue but i would hate to go with the m because of all the ease of parts and a mechanic and friends and miss out on something better.

Any advise or preferences. I am planning on swooping up the 8 on Saturday unless I have input to lead me to the other side.

thanks in advance

It sounds like you're leaning towards the M8 already and looking for reassurance. I think it's a good choice if you were happy with your m7. The rev chassis is a lot different and great for a lot of people but not everyone. The M chassis is good as well and because you have the support (mechanic/dealer) in town for arctic cat I'd go that way.

Good job of listing pro's and con's for your two options. Go back and do a side by side comparison and you will have your answer.

got to ride a 153 -08-sno pro and thought the handeling was way bad..could have been set up but 3 we rode with were new and the dealer was with them..felt dangerous when on 1 ski..i thought this would be my 2nd choice for a sled till i rode it,,NO WAY,,much prefer the dragon to the m8..i know dealer means a lot but these were ill handeling sleds...get the doo or a dragon..just my oppinion but i'll stick by it till i ride one that handels better than these 3..--2 sno pros and a reg m8. all 153 's

If you're not mechanically inclined, I'd go with the CAT--alot of riding time can be lost without the support of the dealer--I've been on CATS for 15 years and Doos for the last 6. Your buddies will shovel the CAT doo on you if you don't conform:D

Re: Wyoming T/A's post

I think set up is crucial to the M-sleds - I came off a 05 REV Summit X 151 with lots of goodies to my M1000. My wife also rode a REV until this year, and she loves her M8. The setup out of the box was terrible on both sleds, but I've learned to accept it and tune my own iron anyway over the years. That said, the REV is a very capable machine with great low end power (06 was the best year in my opinion), but I must say I was never 100% sold on the riding position, and I've owned 4 of them. I am a taller fellow, perhaps that had something to do with it. Pick your poison, both work well when properly set up, but local dealer parts department is why I'm on a Cat. Dealer has a lot to do with how happy you'll be with a sled. My 2 cents.
On another note - Wyoming, if you are ever up in B.C., I'd be glad to hook up with you for a ride - you may change your mind about M-series handling if you rode mine or my wife's machine. We can talk T/A's too - I've a fully restored #'s matching Pace Car with 63,000 miles on it.

great cars, mine has 24000 miles all original down to the tires..as far a set up..the m8 acted like it had to much camber or on that order,,every little suttle change in snow depth or any change it snow consistancy seemed to have a terible effect on the skis..

go with a cat but get the m1000 like it was already said no huge difference between m7 and the m8...just defected from polaris to a m1000 with a slp set up and the thing is like a crack smokin billy goat on steroids.

No brainer to me, get the cat. Good sled and so far reliable motor, hard to say that for the summits. And, if you have dealer support, you got it made. Have fun with it and dont listen to T/A, he biased.

Sounds like the Cat is the no brainer option.
You have the support of a dealer and all the knowledge of your friends.
Those 2 things right there can make a HUGE difference in how long and how bad the down time is. If (or should I say when) you have a problem.

if money isn't a option it looks to me like your mind is allready made up.

i ride ski-doo's but if i were in your position i'd have one of those "high marking" cats!
