My 12yr old niece gets her first deer.

We started a little late
because of some problems with cattle. We finally made it up around 3:00.
We drove around to the top, seen quite a few does but not a single buck. We hoped a little forky would give her a nice 100yrd shot. After
we went on the north side, we made our way around to the south. We scoped every deer we seen and still, no bucks. As we got to the top on the south side, does were making their way up to us. Just then My bro see’s a decent buck bed down in the bottom of the canyon. He took Christina and headed down the canyon to try and take a poke at him. After they walked about 100yrds down the canyon, I noticed a bigger buck
about 1000yrds away on the other side of another canyon. I yelled to my Bro (yes, yelled) to come back up to the Suburban so we could go after the bigger one. We got in the Burban to make the 1 mile trek back down.
Once we got to the area the buck was, he was not there, my bro and I argued as to which way he might have gone. Just then I notice him and his does up on the hill to our left. My bro said, "He's big enough for me" and bailed out of the Burban to try and maneuver for a shot. The only place he could get to was in the wide open and the only shot presented to him was right on the sky-line. I took Christina on down the road in the Suburban in hopes that the buck would watch the truck and give him time to sneak around for a shot. As I drove around the curve I was telling Christina, "I could shoot him from here." and told her to climb into the front seat. We drove around the curve, turned the Burban around and started to come back up. The whole time I was waiting to hear a rifle shot which never came. As we drove around the corner, I could see my bro in the same spot, he hadn't moved. As we inched around I seen the buck, standing there, broadside about 120yrds up the hill and I again thought to myself, “I could shoot him from here”. It then clicked in my head, “If I could do it, she could too!” I told her to get out and sneak around the back of the Burban. As I climbed out, I jacked a shell in the pipe and put it on safe. As she came around, I told her to get a nice rest and see if she could see him good in the crosshairs. She said she could and I asked her if she was comfortable and to put it right on the front shoulder (don't ask why, I never aim there). Once she said she could, I reached over, clicked off the safely and said, "OK, when you are ready, put it on his shoulder and slowly squeeze the trigger. A few seconds went by and BANG! the .243 ripped a hole in him about an inch behind the front shoulder. He jumped as if he where gut shot but once I seen him drop his front shoulder and dip his head, I knew it was over. He dropped, flopped and kicked down a boulder the size of a big block Chevy. I yelled out, "You got him". She turned to me with tears in her eye's and gave me a hug. I then told to run up to her dad (about 150yrds around the corner) who didn't have a clue WTH just happened.

We them climbed up the hill at machII to see him. It was a perfect shot on a nice buck.

This is a hunt I'll remember as if it where my first.

Congrats to both you and your niece. Those are things that neither you nor her will ever forget.

Not to ruin this with any political crap but could you send a copy of the story along with the picture to 1600 Pennsylvania Av. Washington D.C. in care of Barack Obama.
