Mt. Shasta Area 09/10

Haven't talked to anyone but at www.snowcrest.net/mssc it gives condition updates. The club rode Sunday and sounds like it is still only road riding.

I'll post after I ride in the next few days.

Thanks for the post Catfreak. I think snow levels were around 6000' yesterday:mad: Hopefully they drop tomorrow, I still haven't ridden this year, but hoping to go Wednesday.

We are heading up Tuesday to hit it again. With more snow I hope.
The snow level was dropping early yesterday afternoon as the rain had turned back to snow at the snowpark. I think Door Knob is around 5200:confused:

Two good things about today's ride:
1. With friends
2. First ride of the year

Other than those two things it was not a good day.

Day started with my shock rubbing on track, 1/2 hour later I was good to go. My buddy Scott's sled stopped running, we thought it was because it was overheating from the rock hard conditions. Got it running and a mile later it quit again. Phil and I took carbs apart because it was lean, by this time it was too late, his sled had already burned down. Got it back to the trucks with a total of 20 miles, did I say we had "rock hard conditions" in the Eddys?

Good ride today out of deer mtn still have to be careful off trail. Best snow conditions were around the backside of ash creek butte. Computer at home has a virus so will post pics later. Happy new year to all.

Still without a computer. No pictures.

Had a great ride on Saturday out of Deer Mtn. 80% of our ride was off trail. Still have to be careful. Played in untracked snow all day on the backside of Ash Creek Crater.:D

80% off trail! Thats great news. I rode medicine lake friday and saturday, it was deeep! From one day to the next though you could tell it was settling fast. At the snow marker close to the lake it read 3+ feet. It was great riding we were able to play on the flows a little and did about 50% offtrail riding. We are still in need of more snow tho!

all we got was rain, went up to the ski park today, it had puddles of standing water at the base. the upper elevations was really heavy snow and avy conditions are supposed to up quite a bit once it starts to warm up. it was warm enough today that i took my street bike for a ride instead of my sled. sure hope things start to change and soon.

Do you guys think Deer Mt will be good after these next few storms? Calling for over 4 ft at Tahoe by Monday! Forcast I saw on the national weather service said the shasta area is expected to be the hardest hit in the nor cal/so ore. areas

so this is part of an email that the ski park sent out to the patrollers:

I participated in an emergency conference call yesterday afternoon with CalEMA, NOAA and NWS. I'll summarize the call by saying that they are nervous and the state is preparing for a 2-week weather event that is expected to surpass anything that we have seen in over 20 years.

In summary, starting Sunday, a series of El Nino events will hit the entire west coast, with Northern Calif taking the biggest hit. Rainfall between Monday and Wednesday will be in the 15" range, and snowfall above 5,000 ft is expected to be measured in the tens of feet! High, catastrophic winds, specifically in the high Sierras, will be in the 100-200MPH range (yes, that was 100-200 MPH!)

Extended forecasts are generally conflicting; however NOAA and NWS are unanimous in the long range predictons, which are showing that the systems will keep generating and continue to hammer us for at least the next 2 weeks.

Terms used in this conference call were "ominous", "unprescdented", "massive", and "destructive".

lets just hope that all of this pans out!!!

Watson777,

I'd stay away from Deer Mtn. until next weekend.

Lots of low, heavy rain at the start of the week and warm daytime temps.

If I was going to ride our area this weekend, I'd ride Bunny Flat. You can unload at a much higher elevation.
