more boost!? how can i get it out of my dodge?

i have a 2002 6 speed, juice w/ attitude, cold air intake, 4" exhaust, banks quick turbo and rv275 injectors and i spike 36psi then the waste gate opens and drops it to 31psi (hopefully gonna adjust my waste gate to hold 36psi this week)

got a j-hook on now. only spiking to 26lbs. 50 bucks for 5 pounds of boost...kinda disapointed....im thinking about wireing the spring so its compressed.....

is this on level 5? I see 26 pounds when on the lower levels and with no load on the truck. But on 5X5 and and shifting 3rd to od is where I see the highest psi. i.e. more load and more fuel will create more boost. Now i think this is mostly cause I have 216000 mile turbo so a newer set up might see more consistant boost.

Sounds like a boost leak somewhere if your convinced it should be making more boost.

Does the truck smoke? Get up and go well? (as well as a non built auto can go)

Does it have a bigger, more open intake? Like volant or aFE

ill check all the clamps. it gives a puff when you get in it and then cleans up. it goes good....well the only other dodge i can compare it to had injectors, chip, intercooler, and 40lbs of boost so id say it runs good lol. it has an s&b intake on it also

Weird, have you checked the intake manifold gasket?

After putting my air dog 150 in the 2 bolts you remove that holds the fuel filter on somehow didnt get put back in:o:beer; and after a bit of drivin i noticed a loud hiss under boost coming from the driver side engine bank, checked it out and the gaskets pushed out. I cant give you any decrease in numbers as i used a quadzilla monitor for gauges and it doesnt read my boost or work at all for that matter:mad:

Just some ideas too check buddy. These I6's are pretty easy too diagnose and fix.

I know its kinda crude but yeah you can wire up the spring for more tension which will make more boost but by itself it shouldnt have any problem makin 30 lbs or so?

I was thinkin check the boots for rips, clamps, and gasket by the intake horn. Edge, Jhook, intake and exh with the Hy9 should make 30+ lbs of boost easy???

ill chech all the boots and such. i would think it would make more boost. this is my first diesel so im on a purdy steep learning curve

You need to be pulling against something to see a substained boost reading, especially up at 26 psi. As you approach 2700 RPM or so the ECM will start to defuel.

Is you injection pump tapped? Sounds like your vp44 either isn't tapped, or isn't tapped correctly. On my old '98 24v, (with a 70hp quadzilla programmer and 40hp injectors), I could see 35lbs. of boost easy. You should be pushing more fuel than that.

I'm assuming you have an auto since you installed a j-hook...that HY turbo isn't going to do you any good about 30 lbs of boost anyway. You'll be over revving it and just blowing hot air. (and probably way too much drive pressure on it)
Look on ebay or a diesel forum classifieds for an HX35 turbo from a manual trans dodge, cheap bolt-on upgrade.

I agree, with no load at all I could easily top 35 (edge comp tapped on 5x5). I also had an BHAF intake feeding the HX35 (1998.5 auto trans) which helped some too

I'm not sure what the exact numbers are, but keep in mind that if you keep pushing that boost, you may need to think about head studs to save the head gasket. I've got a couple buddies that are into diesel hot-rodding and they have had to go to studs.

It's a dodge not a ford or chevy, you can run 45 with absolutely no issues. I am spiking lower 40's on a pretty stock truck like nothing, don't want to let it go any higher, can't afford a new turbo right now :face-icon-small-hap

BTW cumminsforum=waste of time and the worst forum out there. DTR, comp-d, or diesel bombers.

With a stock turbo on an auto pickup your lucky you got that at 1250. adjust the pyro to 1350 you might get a little more but the stock turbo on a auto is just to small so they don't put out. the the 35 off of a 5 or 6 speed will probably do about 38 maybe, thats all I got out of one with stage 5 injectors and a hot rod pump and edge comp with drag program. mid 40,s you'll have head gasket problems. I put twins on mine and it will run around 55 in missoula. studded the gasket won't hold tho
