I know some who cut the small tails on the end of the paddles on the Pro RMK's claiming better performance and less stress on the paddles. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

To do a quick job on trimming could a jig be made? I have some 1/8" aluminum plate laying around. Thinking of cutting a piece wider than the widest lug, then bending it into a square cornered "U". I would then cut a long slot in the center (bottom) of the "U". The length of the legs would determine the height of the lug to be cut. I should be able to turn the "U" over the lug so that only the lug serrations are showing. Spray the lug with WD-40 and slide a sharp knife down the guide to shave the lug off.

Too complicated? I think it would help with a nice uniform cutting job and hopefully be safe for the fingers.

Sounds like a great idea. I did see one that was done and I was told it took less than 30 minutes with just a utility knife. I just don't know if it's a good idea or not.:yield:

Craftsman Handi-Cut with a 4" blade, the perfect length to trim off just the tips of the Polaris tracks, takes just minutes.

This and the screws in F-Bombs track mod made a huge difference in traction the 08 D8 163 and 08 D7 155 we had. Plan on trimming the ProRMK tracks as well.

Trimming the track helps it penetrate the snow better and the screws stiffen the paddles. Great for the heavier snow we have in the PNW.

Thanks F-Bomb!

I cut them dry but it would probably be easier with some type of lube.

That Craftsman HandiCut is the perfect tool for the job, nice sharp blade and nice clean cuts, worked well.

If a moderator had some free time, it might be nice if an F-bomb track sticky was made that the photos, links, tools and screws could be compiled in one place.

I found that using silicone spray helped cutting the track quite a bit. I use $6 nippers from Harbor Freight - works great!

Have FUN!

Does anyone have any before/after pictures of the recommended trimming?

TIA

Here is an after picture. See the trimmed pieces on the ground in the back... I took a razor blade and held it with a vicescripes so I could pull straight across. Worked great...

Yep, that's all you have to remove, it's amazing what a difference it makes.

The track on my 08 D8 had about 2K miles on it when I did the F-Bomb track mod and the lugs were starting to curl a bit. I held them straight while installing the screws and it straightened and stiffened them quite a bit.

guide

I clamped a metal ruler to the lug and use a new utility knife without lube and it took about 35 or 40 minutes. you can feel a dif in the stifness of the lugs without putting screws in them

I did the mod before ever riding in the mountains but all i know is on hard packed 4-6 inches of snow on a lake i could spin for days and make a little trench off the line before the mod and now it will wheely and pull hard off the line and dig down to the ice. Its like night and day difference on hard pack. Like going from all seasons to snow tires.

Who has used this for a screw to aid in iced up wind blown sun beat faces? What is a good tunnel protector for it? The 1.5 inch screw looks interesting.

Track Trim

I know insharder snow conditions the track trim shines, how does it effect your down hill braking? And has any body that has done it on 155 or 163 rode it the bottom less sugar snow that we get a couple times a year in Southern ID. How does it effect getting on top of the snow or does it trench a little bit more? Very tempted to do the mod for all of the posted advantages. But how does it compare to a stock pro track on the bottom less days. want to optimize the benefits but can't help but feel like I am gonna give up some flotation on the bottom less powder days? Any first hand experience? I run the 163 12 Pro. Thanks
