MCX 180 Update

evil1, thats the first I've heard of problems with it. Everyone that has sent mail to me seems to have been able to get their's dialed in. Got another one to install this week so we'll see. Just what was wrong with yours, just didn't work? Sherm

nope didnt work at all,,had the rod set the standard known number of turns and when i tried it ,,see just banged the guage right to 20 psi,,,sooooo stop right there oviously,,then removed the solenoid and it was back to 10,,adjusted rod somemore and got it at 5 psi for sealevel,,,the guy that installed it for me has'nt seen it before eiither,,and he did about 13 this year,,hope i don't need to have one of those in my back pocket all the time

I made an litte document you can look @ to figure out expected boost levels @ diffrent altitudes!

Thank you for this. I'm running around 9psi at 7500' right now. Ample power and a very playful machine. I think that is modest boost for reliability, and more then enough hp for most to handle.
Loving this 2010 Nytro chassis too!

help sherm??

heh i've tried everything and get the boost down,,how is your tcv valve piped,,mine is hooked up with metal barb end hooked to the outlet side--the snail housing to the engine,,then straight out the other end to the waste gate,,the 90% barb is on that end..does this sound right?

Thanks Sledit, I already deleted that pic! evil1, let us know if that pic helps or not, if not I'll take some others. The hose at the bottom of the valve goes to the waste gate while the top hose goes to the fitting at the bottom of the turbo.
Sledit, when you installed the bracket (black one) that attaches with the two big bolts to the turbo and then to the aluminum cross piece, did you have to grind that bracket a bit for the turob exhaust piece to clear it? Just doing another kit right now and had to grind the bracket a bit again, same as last one. My kit, one of the first ones, fit perfect! Also, the waste gate lever is bent down more on this kit than mine. Strange they'd change things when they were working so good.........Sherm

yeah sherm i have'nt tried the change yet, workn nights,, but its plumbed different on sledits(and thanks alot for pic on sledits). On mine the lines go in one end and on the other end with the two barbs,,it goes on the opposite one thats on sledits,,and i was just bench testing the other night and figured that the way air gets through it that it was wrong,,so i'm real confident this will fix my issue,,gonna try it out in the am after i get of this nightshift run then off to revelstoke for 10 days woohoo!! My setup is with a CR racing tunnel dump manifold/mountain mod seat,,I'll try to show some pics of it when i'm setting up!!!

No problem, no grinding when I did mine Sherm fit good. It has been running great 750 miles now, had some ice build up by that valve once and it started to over boost but cleared and warmed it up then no worries . Made it to Valemount for a ride, all the power I needed there maybe to much climbed a bit high didn't watch where I should come down and launched it off a small rock lip end over end 6-7 times the boys watching said it was the best or (worst in my opinion) crash they had seen in person, I was stabing into the snow myself saw the last flip and thought it was going to be real expensive, thanks to the tether and roll over valve, duct tape, zip ties, lucky no serious damage and rode the rest of the day in sun and good snow.

well just fresh out of revy and the sled worked good but didnt compensate....when i got to 7000 it was loosing boost so i turned in my linkage 3 turns a day for 2 days but didnt help,,havent hit the the sweetspot i guess but i didnt get much tuning time...avy conditions were crazy so we spent our time in griffen and hall in te trees,,,tight trees,,,and thats where the nitro dont shine very welll,,,can a guy put a regular manual boost controol on and call it done??? with my set up i got to take seat off/heat sheild off the adjust rod shorter then try again and its a pain so far

yup...get a hallman pro controller with the ceramic ball...I did mine and it is nice to be able to adjust when and where you want.

thanks thistledo,,,so yours didnt adjust with altitude like it was suposse to either?? do you have anything else done with yours other than 180 hp turbo,,I was thinkin what a head shim and injectors might do what ya think??

I have the 240 kit....it kinda did work but then this season I had over boost problems....like it thought I was higher than I was....so I had to do something....and so I eliminated the electronic boost controller and used the hallmen and so far its just fine. I have a head shim and at altitude I run 15lbs....:face-icon-small-hap

evil1, I'd maybe look into why it isn't compensating before going and changing everything else? I just finished our 3rd install on that 180 kit and it rocks! No boost problems whatsoever, turned out 6-7 turns and its boosting where its supposed to at altitude. That little nozzle on the valve isn't in a spot where it can get plugged with snow is it? I mounted all of ours above the air intake hose, up and out of the way.........Sherm

SO everyone here with there 180 kit. Are you satisfied with the hp or do you wish you would have went with the 240? Im on the fence on which kit to get. Does anything compare to the nytro with the 180 kit or is it still ahead of the modded 2 smokers.

52-58mph track speed while climbing....:face-icon-small-ton
I'm definately happy with mine. I tangled with a Ski Don't XP /w 860BB. I'm sure mine is working better than one of those.

That's not to say that 240 or 270 wouldn't be great. But for my style the 180 is amazing.:closed_2:

Yeah i guess I'll give it another try,, and no the snow isnt blocking anything where its mounted,,I just don't think the rod is adjusted in far enough yet,,I'll try 6 turns like ya said,,thanks again,,,think I'm gonna try a head shimm and injectors on 12psi,,came all this way with it my as well i was figuring:face-icon-small-sho

I'm more than satisfied with the 180 hp and don't think I'd want anymore than that! There will always be another sled that can outdo it, but who cares. I think it boils down to what each persons riding style is and just how far that person is willing to push the envelope when they are out. For me, this sled is "the one" and any search for something else is definitely out. Sameo for my other two Nytro buddies who also went with the 180 kit, it does all that we want to do! evil1, maybe a PM to Sly could give you some ideas what it might be? Sherm

I had a problem with over boosting too. Hyfler was sure I got the "sensor" plugged with snow, and he was right. My kit was really beat up when I got it and some thing were bent. I fixed my problems, but wish I had 240 now:). Hyflyer has a Impulse and I don't like him walking away from me like that.
