Making a pretty big life change..

I call it a powermove. Tentatively it will involve a pretty good amount of money in a short period of time. I want to use the money to pay off old debt, and invest the way i want to invest. ( " it takes money to make money " ).

I will be leaving for North Dakota in 3 weeks, so here's my question for the ND folks. I hear back and forth that there's housing, there isn't. Then I hear there are hotels and apartments popping up left and right. What's the deal? Is it really as bad as some people say it is? " It's a lot worse than you can imagine " a gal at New Wesleyan Church told me when I called over there in Williston.

Say, might there be room for just 1 or two more hard working people?

I'm applying starting today as it was a final last minute decision. If I dont land a job im looking for by the time i leave, I hear I can always apply at a restaraunt for security until I meet the superintendents face to face?

Mentally, I have prepared myself for sleeping in my vehicle since it is summer. I will be bringing a cot to take up minimal space in case i find a room available. A cot and canned food, sounds like paradise! Oh, and can't forget my George Forman grill.

What are the pros and cons for an outsider to move to North Dakota? I hear locals are real friendly to others of the sort.. I see myself as a good guy, so i dont see myself getting kicked out of any towns..

There are more booms around then just nodak..... North east wyoming is gearing up for a big oil/gas drilling boom. Get in it while it's not gangbusters and get a place to stay n stuff

Gearing up as in jobs available NOW working for 70+ hrs a week? Because wyoming has been a bucketlist destination for years. But I feel like for now i need to get the job or jobs that pay big bucks. High working hours, and low sleeping hours is going to suck , but I do feel its what I need. But I am perfectly okay with ditching ND if it just doesnt work out for me.

Oh boy. You got a long painful road ahead. If your are a hard, drug free worker with a mind of always thinking ahead and can take a lot of verbal, physical and emotional abuse and not talk back. You won't have any problems working all the hrs you want and working up the ranks. If you match that description, you move anywhere with active rigs, you will make money.

That all sounds like a piece of cake :). the word wyoming did pull a trigger though... I might have to take a detour and visit the state before i hit ND.

A good friend goes back and forth over there and makes great money, he said there were alot of alcoholics and druggies making bank and blowing it on more alcohol and drugs. Having nothing to show for it. Kinda wish they'd drug test everyone once a week so the ones who are physically able and sober can make the money and contribute to society.

I wish you all the best in ND! The only version I have seen is on the way through and what gets flown out as emergency medical cases and that ain't pretty (fight night on drugs)! Keep your eyes open and remember that your safety depends on those crazy morons that are blitzed on drugs and alcohol. And, if you're a true gentleman, watch out for the ladies that are still left in the area. Way too many horror stories about how they are treated.:mad2:

Again, all the best!

Yeah thats exactly what the lady at the church was saying was that the girls need a guy in the restraunts to maybe do a little regulating. She said its to the point where girls dont go out at night to run errands? Woah...

If for some reason i find it hard to get a job i could go work at a restraunt till i grab something...

Even thinking of just starting a business out there offering some sort of service during any sort of free time. Where there's more people there is more money. :)

Work hard for X number years with a plan in mind. Too many young guys go to work oil/gas rigs, make $100K/year++....blow it ALL on partying, lifted trucks, sleds and other junk.

Not that that stuff isn't fun to an extent, but 10 years down the road...when you've worked your arse off, and all you have to show for it is a bunch pimped out toys, that are now destroyed and worth nothing...that you still owe $$ on....that's a crappy spot to be in. I have seen so many guys from my area go to the rigs in north Alberta and BC...make tons of money for many years....and somehow come back more pi$$ broke than they started. What a waste. With big money at a young age, a guy can really set himself up nicely if he has even a little restraint.

WTF~how can you put drug free and worker in the some sentence?

Well i'm drug free....

And yeah the idea is to be so busy working with nothing around me to spend money on, buy land, build a house. Do it all myself with the help of family, and i could probly build a pretty nice house for 80k in material. AFTER i take a good portion of the money made and invest it properly to come up even more. I have a plan... but the follow through is the real test.

Anyone in ND have an extra room or some closet space available?

I live in ND I live ins Bsmarck and housing isnt bad here its expensive but I believe its not to tough to find a place. As far as williston ive heard housing is hard to come by and very very expensive. I think minot is a little better than williston but still hard to find housing and its not cheap either. Good luck with the life change dont know where your coming from but winters r rough here cold and windy all the time so dress better get your winter coat out. You shouldnt have any problem finding a job up here everyones hiring. Try GE ive got a couple friends that work for them and they got a pretty cake job sit in a truck all day and get 23/hr at 100hrs a week.
