m8 vs Dragon 8 - break it down

Im not sure

This my be a bit off but Im not sure about the D8. I have road polaris for years from the indy days. I have an 08 and a new 09 drag last year the 08 was a wonderfull sled (not stock buy anymeans) loved everything about it execpet the running boards they pack. I also ride with alot of XP 8's and are competitive to mine, and I hate to say it when it comes to the steep and deep they come out on top first. As for the cat's I do ride with a few but don't have a lot to go from, because the guys have the m7 or the big cat. the big cat does not seam to work real well but the m7 will hang with the doo and the pol. I do agree with the others it is all about what each of us like to ride, because they are all so close for the most part. And love the competion between us all. That is what makes the sport great.

I have spent time on both the cat and poo. I like riding them both. I just got the parts to fix the tunnel on my M. It was just kinked a little bit in the rear piece. It's going to cost me chump change to fix it. My buddy poked a hole in his dragons running board. You have to buy the whole enchilada to fix anything on that tunnel. Major Cha Ching! Cat for me

Negative Sir, the XP is the best all around Boondocking/trail/mtn sled, but the easy BD turbo kit for the M made me jump ship (and i gotta steller deal, thx trav), this engine/turbo will be stuffed in an XP if this M does not work for me......JMO

A BOSS seat and some USI shoes will make that M much better, i got em both and some really trick shock covers....and its needs some help with the skid suspention....working on it, a friend tells me you can simply move three bolt holes to get the rear skid to move around like the HOLZ.....im pretty much commited to this M for year, gotta make it work for me

This is totally correct!

I have the '08 163" and the mod list is dismal unless you gotz lotz 'o' cake!

If your going to turbo, major mod, or what ever! Buy a cat/poo. But if you want a stock sled that goes really well, get the XP.

800 polaris

Just rode my new assault and a new 800 dragon sp both with slp pipe and can with resistor in, Slp intake kit, Slp torque arm in ND and found some spots in cattails and areas that were over waist deep and these sleds were awesome. Rode a buddys 700 dragon with slp pipe and intake kit. The new 800s have way more Power. Overall i really like the new sleds

Thunked so...wait till you see the new buggy they gave me for this year. I believe it will cause you to spend copious amounts of coinage on your 09. For this thread it's a totally unfair comparison to the piddly poor ol M's and XP's. But I don't mind riding circles around them anyway and they don't need to know it costs just about double! Keating isn't allowed to touch it until he swears his allegence and sells that motor busting 07....or bribes me with a cold beer...either or! ( I bet he ends up with an XP..he he he)

I couldn't agree with you more!!! After riding a doo the poo 'feels' like a pig. And those '08 bars! I absolutly hate them! Good stove in the dragon though.

I said this befroe and i'll say it again. STOCK m1000's have a hard time keeping up with a stock setup XP 163", never mind the m8!

I personally like the riding style of the xp way more then the other 2. Cat and poo feel like what darko said, a kk900!

The xp does take some time to get used too. Ride one for a few days back to back, then go back to the the poo or cat. It feels like you just went back in time 5 years!

My favorite sled to ride last year was the XP but I rode all 3 and the XP I rode was a freind of mine's and it spent more time in the shop not working right' then on the trail riding!

Id buy an M8 and put a gas pump turbo on it from day one or a D8 and do some cheaper mods and would ride either of them!

I have ridden the M chassis a lot which I love. The 09 M changes will make it a great sled. I rode the Dragon last year and really liked it. It felt better on the trail but I liked the way the M handled in the powder. I don’t think that you could go wrong with ether. I have a buddy that bought a 09 D8 this year so I will get a lot of time on that chassis. I don’t care for the XP I rode last year. It was way to stable…………Oh no I will get flamed for saying any thing bad about the high and mighty XP. Damn they are a sensitive bunch. LOL

LOL you think that matters? What about Chris Burandt, IMO best rider on the planet, what does he ride? We dont need videos and big riders to tell us what we like, if you do then you are a spode. I think we normal guys have logged enough hours on sleds to be able to make up an educated decision.

Uh, I didn't really know I was stirring the pot that much! I guess now I have a bad reputation? Someone has to send me some green dots, I didn't know I was dealing with such heavy hitters. Slednecks thing is just a basic fact. And ya, I know Chris rides a Cat. Heres what Ive seen...

My REV has drivin me crazy trying to get it to fall over like the Dragon. Swaybar is out, inside wheel kit, lots of suspension attempts, but it's just a different creature. In the pow everything handles great, but the Dragon feels more like a pair of skis, just less sled in your face. In marginal conditions the Dragon handles way better, I was on a demo for a couple days and could sidehill around the parking lot. When I try that on the REV you better give me a wide berth!

I got the REV cause it just claws, and it feels good in the air. For some reason I got the Dragon stuck 10 times in 2 days and the REV only once. Trade offs and good sides both ways.

If history repeats itself the 09 dragon will be more dialed in than the 08 from the factory. I saw one day a 600 rmk was putting the same mark on the mountain as the 800 dragon. Also saw an xp consistenly climb higher on the steep and deep better than any of the other stock sleds. With that said, the last ride we went on to bedford we had the 09 800 demo that SLP put their single pipe kit with porting airbox etc. I think it's in the neighborhood of $1600. Anyway no comparison to the stock 08. The polaris noticibly outclimbed the xp's with no arguments. Hopefully the Polaris drivers were fixed. I think alot of hp was lost to the ground due to them.
