M8 Questions

I have a 08 M8 and i have this code that keeps coming up its ecu21 its the code for the knock cylinder, but when im climbing it drops power like crazy and somtimes shuts off and wont start back up, my local dealership told me it is because i took my stock can and took out all the insulation. I really think its somthing else does anyone have some insight

Your dealer is definitely feeding you a load of crap. I'm guessing it could be bad fuel. I may be wrong, but I think that code is actually for a FAILING detonation sensor, meaning that there is something wrong with the sensor itself, rather than how the sled is running. The sled's computer may not know what's going on, so it retards the timing. I could be totally off, but that's my take.

Just because you run premium doesn't mean you could have got bad fuel. Sometimes premium can sit in the holding tanks for long periods of time as regular is a more popular grade. Maybe try draining your tank and adding a gallon of new stuff from a different station. Start with the easy things....

Find a freind with a M8 and switch the knock sensors before buying a new one. 5 minute change in the field. Had to replace mine last year because of simular symtoms. It was over $100.

I had the same code,hard to start when Hot

There was some M8's that A/C changed the ECU out for different one

My got changed and has worked good every since

well i put new fuel in it and rode the north cascade highway today and it ran like crap had no power my dad and my buddy were stompping me, but once i hit 5000 alt. it started to run better, its weird but i will call another dealership about the ecu.

my first thought is get rid of the premium fuel and put reg unleaded thats what its made to run on then install new plugs jmho

i thought about the plugs but reg gas idk about that
