m7 big bore

Im runnin a D&D 900 on my 06 m7 LE. Its my main sled and I have an 09 m1000 for a back up. That should tell u something.

I put Racing Station 800 kit to my sled last year. Ran stock pipe and no fuel controller last winter and added SW 925 pipe, BD box and timing + some clutching this winter. Really like the engine and would do it again anytime. Zero problems - just pull rope and enjoy.

Great feedbacks from you all, last question I am curious about head, RKT offers two options on the head, reshape the stock head making the motor a sleeper or go with their billet head for $400. Would reshaped stock head be similiar to billet head in powerwise? I do know that Cutler has very excellent customer service so I hear, not sure about D&D, my friend has bad experience with them abit ago.... he is very disappointed with their customer service. One performance shop ( I wont mention the name) used to sell and install D&D big bore kits in past but switched to Cutler after series of problems and bad customer services , now his customers are very happy with Cutler kits.... money is the question because of my accountant/CEO...(aka WIFE) It is hard to spend few thousand dollars without her notice but for under two thousand, maybe she has no clue... You get the picture? I more likely would go with RKT big bore kit so I would not have to sleep in the doghouse.... hee hee.......

Here's my take.

I believe that the only ones that use a stock M8 piston are RKT & Racin station. I think the best customer service would be cutler, RKT, Racin Station.
I've got a BB SW kit, and after paying $280 for 1 piston, I'll NEVER buy anything from them again. To charge you 4X what the piston costs for a POS wiseco piston is robbery. If I had to buy a piston for an RKT or RS BB 8, it'd cost less than $100 & I could have it in 2 days from ANY dealer.

I'm a big fan of cutler, but the amount of dragoncats I've seen (BB1000) that are problematic is large proportionately. Badazz motor when they run right, but can't say I'd buy one.

From the RKT's I've seen that run like hell & have no tuning, that's the way I'd go.

btw, the billet head cools better, one reason to go with that instead of a cheater.

wiscos min order for a custom job is 12 pistons and was quoted 150 each, so they might not of bent you over as bad as you think :P

I've had a Dakota Performance 8 kit on my 05 since almost new. Ran w/ boondocker box originally, then switched to Pure Logic for tuning ease. I've had 0 problems with the motor, other than self-inflicted mistakes. It runs stock Poo non-VES 8 pistons, but he may have switched to the stock M8 pistons by now. It will easily outrun the new M8's, and didn't cost $3g.

i have been down the road of big bore on the 05 m7. I was helped by Dale Cutler on a motor that was not built by him. We never could get the motor to run to my satisfaction. All my friends told me to buy from Cutler but he more expensive. If i had it to do agian i would not deal with anyone but Cutler. I am not one to bad mouth the guys i have delt with but none of them have the customer service that Cutler does.

Ok out of curiousity on pistons, Which way would you go with OEM or SPI pistons for the big bore kits and why? Don't mention about WISECO please, as far I know about WISECO. It is about cast pistons between SPI and OEM which I want the inputs on. WISECO is forged so doesnt apply for the inputs...

800 kits

if you have a stock 700

800 kits are ok if you have realistic expectations about results and own a calculator and figure a reasonable power improvment, then spend the $$$$$ to clutch it to use the new power...........if you are expecting to absolutely blow by your pal on a stock700 running well..........well be forewarned.

might find more better satisfaction with a good port job on the 700 better gearing, better track, zeroed in clutching for a lot less.....bigger smile

if you just have to find out, go big bore it. if you get into $3000 bucks, I think the general concensus is go turbo

you might be doing the right thing, post about it, then buy a new bigger sled.

I have a rkt m8 kit and it is a noticeable improvement. I tried several different pipes and found that the black slp twins made it rip. meaning it made me feel good about the purchase after the twins. but for the costs of the kit and pipes, boondocker, clutching i wish i would have went turbo or upgraded 08+ m8. Two seasons on the engine now and its been reliable and beats alot of m8s in our group. If i would do it again, no, not with some of the deals going on lately. I mainly couldnt justify selling the sled because i do so much preventative maintence on it and it has low miles.
