M-Chassis VS. R.A.W. Chassis

Seems like the Boss seat and risers make a huge difference on the feeling of the M, hopefully it'll do the trick:D

It's a hard choice. Between getting a 700 dragon and an M1000, the M1k for sure. Between the 800 and m1k? I really couldn't make a decision. I could have gotten either but went with the M1k for the pure raw torque and horsepower. It was climbing the thick and heavy pretty well this weekend. I rode my buddy's 800 dragon and it was like driving a sports car, very smooth and linear power band with plenty of kick, but still down about 25horsepower/torque.

This is the mountain/deep powder segment right???? Who gives a crap about which does better on the trail? Who cares about the seat? Why the heck are you riding sitting down? The only time I sit down is when we stop to eat lunch and at that point, comfort isn't really worth much. Both are awesome sleds. They feel somewhat similar, especially compared to the akward steering and riding feel of the ski doo.(to me) I wish cat would steal a few ideas off of the poo raw tunnel. Both are extremely capable chasis' and with the right rider, either one can do great things. I still prefer the M and it fits me best.

15 minutes on a sled that is set up for someone else isn't going to give anyone an accurate recount of a chassis.

I had to add a BOSS and riser to my M8 to get it to fit me, also had to adjust everything there was to adjust from toe out on the skis to the shock preloads. Even had to adjust where I liked the thumb throttle and brake leaver position

having done that I love the chassis now, if I did the same thing to the RAW chassis I'm sure I'd love it too.

I will say that my sled cost me 8k, I can almost turbo my M sled for the cost of a stock D800.

cheers :beer;

The M is sweet for carving, but it just seems really tippy on sidehills and off camber stuff to me, but then again, thats comparing to a REV which is low and hard as hell to lay over.

I found the RAW chassis real tippy coming off an 07 Rev, the more I rode it the more I appreciated the higher centre of gravity, makes it much easier to lay over and throw around!:D

Have not ridden the M8 but plenty of time on the M7. I now have a new D8. $10,300 for my D8 155" and $9,600 for an M7 162. Talking about $. Add a real seat, and riser to the M7 and your only $250 bucks cheaper. Still 10 HP less on M7. So the cost is really a wash. D8 has better handling and power in all aspects, in my opinion. Ofcourse that is the M7 but M8 only has 4 more ponies than the M7 and M1000 is heavier.

Final vote goes to the D8 in stock head to head comparison.........even ask SnoWest test riders..........will see what happens this year in the shootout.

dude are you a mind reader or what? was thinking the exact same thing the whole time i was reading this. i thought the seat was a knee rest, didn't know you would sit down on a mountain sled!!! surprised they weren't complaining it didn't come with a full faced helmut and a place to plug in thier heated shield:) someone else earlier also noticed isn't the dragon a lot, and i do mean a lot, like the m. set them side by side without stickers and you'd be hard to tell they came from different manufactures. have rode both and they handle close to the same. got a feeling of being a little higher on the dragon but felt a lot like my M. drug my foot across the high dragon seat the first time i jumped from side to side and thought "why would you want a tall seat on a mountain sled?" the dragon didn't seem to have as stable a feeling when on one ski as my M but i'm sure after a couple of days that would be gone. the dragon would be my second sled of choice except for the price. this is where polaris is way off the mark. are they trying to make up for the 900 all in a couple of years???

but think now you are going from 1 extreme to another form a kicka$$ lightweight 700 that more than likely could keep up with a 1000 VS. a heavy 1000 that is just not right but it is your money. but if you get the chance do you think you will switch back next year?

Guess you don't have tax and licensing fees in Utah.

I bought a brand new 07 M8 this year for $8500 out the door. Tax and licence. It must be expensive to live in Washington State!!!:D

Lets see that leaves me $1800 for mods...... Sounds like the way to go.

I paid $8400 for my 07 M-8 this fall all costs out the door here in Colorado. 89Sandman, we must just be a strange brew! I'm glad my goofy busy mind isn't alone. I spent another hour or so on a 700 dragon today and after that, I can say that I really like the sled overall. Here's my quirks with it now... the horrible grinding sound when you use the brake at high speeds or coming down steep stuff.....WAY too soft on the front end, for me....the raw chasis is harder to ride extremely aggressive than any M I've ever been on. All in all, comes down to preferance and riding style. No sled is the "best" for everyone.

it just depends if you want to be carving in the powder or sitting at the top of the hill watching them carve in the powder

Wow thanks for bringing that to the table....everyone is now enlightened

I totally disagree! That was damn funny and totally insightful. It was probably one of the top 10 "first time posts" I have read on Spodewest. Welcome Yz250. You're going to fit right in...haha

M chassis is sick, as is the RAW... its a tossup for me, and I'm a cat guy...never ridden the RAW 800, might be a turning point, cause my 700 cat does just as well as the )7 700 dragon 144. I do have a taller seat and risers on my cat... both are great, depends on money and slight modifications to get what you want.

I would never give up my M7 for a 700 Dragon (except the trail ride and reverse are nice). But they are so close, if I bought a 700 dragon, i probably wouldnt give it up for an M7 lol.

But i would deffinitely buy a Dragon 800 over the M8. We have an M7, M8 and M1000, and i so far have been disappointed in the M8 in stock form.

And to clarify a different point, some of us DO enjoy a nicer ride on the trail IN to the steep and deep. Where we ride, the trails are not maintained, just old forest service roads and cut trails only wide enough for the sled. From the start to the end the whole trail in is 2 foot woops or better, so a nice ride really helps the back and arms and legs. lol.

I have an 06 M7 with a K-Mod skid

Absolutely love it

Have a whole day on a 700 Dragon and personally think the M is easier to throw around and a lot easier to lay over.

I thought my EDGE RMK narrowed up with no sway bar was easier to lay over then the Dragon.

I almost always stand in the middle and can lay over the M with ease. With the dragon I definitely had to stand on one side.

Haven't ridden a dragon with no sway bar. Maybe that would make it a lot closer.

i have a m-7 and i got to ride the 800 dragon and the dragon distroyed my m-7 it was better in every way

Why? It is seems obvious that both are great as a general opinion. Some prefer the raw, some the M. As far as the big 4 these days are concerned, these 2 are the most similar and comparable. I, being a cat guy, can jump on a poo and feel comfortable and feel like I know the sled and can make it do what I want. Whenever I jump on a rev or xp, I feel like I need a day or two on them to get comfortable. As far as yami goes...... the apex is WAY too heavy and the phazer just doesn't cut it. I would love to spend a half day or so on a nytro and form an opinion on it. In my own personal opinion, a person can't go wrong with either the raw or M. Throw in track length, engine size, and the specific type of riding a person wants to do, and there you can determine a better of the 2.
