Loud sleds, we are our own worst enemies

I don't agree with loud sleds one bit although they do sound nice once in a while for a few seconds. Needless to say there really isn't a place for them anywhere.

What is more disturbing is the aftermarket manufactures that continue to make these products with out having the broad vision of where things are going. SLP has mad an effort but more and more people are turning away from them to get something that is louder. Why?

If people here a snowmobile, ATV, dirtbike or anything, the special interest groups will do their best to hammer it out, shut it down or whatever no matter what we do.

If everyone left their sleds exhaust in tact or with the same decible level at least I personally feel we would be in a much better position to fight things then we are right now.

I was reading that thread and was waiting for some one to give em hell. I personally am not a big fan of loud pipes! I get funny looks at the parts counter when I ask them which is the quietest. :D

I hate loud pipes. Props to SLP and other pipe places helping to make performance and good sound but not to loud.

I know, i want to get a different can set up for my SLP twins, it's not stupid loud, but i wouldn't mind a set thats quieter.

My attitude towards this is mixed. I don't want the greens on us because we are loud, but I still like the sound of a piped up sled. I will probably go with the Ultra Q for my nytro, because of this. Dirt bikes, too, are under the watch of the treehugging type, so we have to be careful what we do with those, too! On the other hand, I like my streetbikes (I currently have an R1) to be as loud as possible, because as long as the Harley wonks can get away with it, I am going to, too!!!! They can't do as much with all of the gears on their bikes as I can with the first two on mine, but they "sound cool" I guess.

Hmmm if Im in the deep dark forest with my HPS high flow (and a little loud) can, can you hear me no! The only place I see anyone is in the frigging parking lot. I do what i can to keep things quiet but my sled runs noticeably better with this can. So Im keeping it.

Don't you have a Yoshimura slip on on your sled???? How quiet is that???? Quieter than stock I guess, otherwise you wouldn't have done it?!?!?

Agreed, louder isn't helping anything but an ego. That sidehill vid was lame.

Wow you are such a hypocrite. Vids never do any justice, but anyway that was not a skill video. I was just being helpful in showing that I think the hps is too loud. Lets see some of your vids.

Dunno, I like the sound of a loud pipe but guy I know says after a few hours it gets annoying. And gets keeps him to ridingday hours only to respectfully not wake the neighbors when he rides back into town.

I don't know what's worse.
The fact they think it is just a bunch of old guys whining or the fact they know it causing riding to be shut down and don't care.

I really wish people would get more involved or at least get a clue as to the whole picture and not their itty bitty piece of it.

I live in the middle of nowhere so I don't care, doesn't cut it anymore.
man this pisses me off.

The thing that pisses me off is that on my old truck i had true duals with jus short glass packs, no cats, and i got pulled over a couple of times, i constantly hear and see cars and trucks getting pulled over for exhaust, Why the H*ll aren't they pulling the harley's and bikes over?!?! Never hear or see them getting pulled over. They are way louder than my old truck. It's a joke!

I feel the same. But, up here is a law that your street vehicle/bike may not have louder exhaust then when it rolled off the showroom. but, they do NOT really enforce it. So, i think that has't to do with it. Myself thinks, Harley's are too loud.

My thoughts exactly!!!!!! My buddy (who graduated the same year as my dad) said the same thing. If the Harley crowd can get away with it, why can't we???? BTW, My dad rides the Honda VTR 1000 I sold him!!!! And loves it!!! I am sooooo happy! The only bike he would want over that one is a Ducati!!!!!! I honestly hate harleys, not the bikes as much as the mentality if the owners!
