Looking at going 4 stroke, whats the best boosted system out there?

I won't do it myself, probably buy a used one, but am looking for reliabilty, throttle response, do they all perform pretty much in the same HP at same levels of boost? Any info would be great, I know little about boosted 4 strokes besides the various companies that make turbo systems for them.

Thanks

IS ford, dodge or chevy better?

All are pretty good anymore just depends on which kit looks better to you. Front, or rear mount. turbo or super. then theres little things like Impulses fuel tank. Honestly pick a kit Impulse, MCX, MPI, Powderlites, Alpine then pick your hp level and go for it. Id probably choose one that was fairly close to you or you could talk to if a problem ever did arise.

I also went with MPI. But i agree that you really can't go wrong. They are all nice systems that run great. I went with MPI because i felt comfortable with Matt and felt if i ever had any troubles that he would be there to help me figure out what the problems were.

Have you had an opportunity to ride either a Turbo or Supercharged sled yet?

LOL. The stock boosted yammies get a whopping 160hp. Still less than a stock 2s of any kind. But....

I did have a friend with a boosted Nytro the year they came out and it ran strong. Easily 260+hp but it was still a tank as far as handeling.

I don't know of a single kit that gets 160hp...if your talking about the factory backed super and turbo options then its 180hp. Which is more than any stock 2s at sea level and WAY more than any stock 2 stroke at high elevation! Plus it's a LOT more reliable than even a stock 2 stroke.... I'm sure some will disagree but thats what the trend I've seen implies.

EDIT - as the others have said, go with the kit that fits your needs. If you want to run pump gas vs. race fuel etc.

If you will be getting the sled serviced/maintained by your local dealer - find out which kits they work with.

Considering he said he is NOT going to do the install, then that is probably some really good advice!!

If your not doing the installation nor the regular maintenance, then find a system that your local tech is WELL VERSED and happy to work on.

If you opt for a Supercharger, MPI pretty well owns the market.
But.
If you choose a Turbo, you have LOTS of manufacturers to choose from.

Really a matter of what YOU want from the system.

I have never seen anything go up the hill like an impulse kit, nor work as well. but like said they are all good, For you it sounds like you should find out what your dealer will get for you and order that since your not doing any of the work

Mcx 240 kit is a very good turbo kit 13 psi and you run it on pump gas.
You have the same hp on any altitude, works aweysome.
McX 240 kit if you have a Nytro
McX 290 kit if you have a Apex
I will say that the McX 240 kitt is the most reliabilty.

I think it's Chevy. But i have only owned cummings and powerstroke:becky:

Whats a cumminGs???? Is it new??? Never heard of one of those???? I have had several cummins powered dodges that have brought home a few trophies from a drag strip or two though!:face-icon-small-win

After running a impulse apex for a few seasons I am sold! I have called paul on a few occations and he is always open and honest with info! The standalone system out for the nytro and now apex are where its at!

I have ridden some boondocker setup 4 strokes which ran very well also, and been around many MPI SC's, stage 1 and 2.

the supers obviously hit hard on the bottom but lack the topend pull that the turbos have. I rode a very well setup nytro stg 2 super @ 18lbs (which mac had traveled out and personally tuned/setup)and it ran almost 100% identical as my 1200wc tripple @ 5K feet from start to the top of the mtn. On the same day same hill my impulse apex was there on pump runnin 12lbs of boost, low 80ish mph track speeds, while the SC was mid 50's (this was on wet heavy setup sierra cement!) the supers have their place as do turbos its all in personal prefrence and how you ride!

I also just took out my apex for a local grass drag, 4.1 seconds in 300 feet, there were no less than a half dozen studded grass drag sub 300 lb rails runnin big nasty twins that were runnin 3.9's. I was full bodied full weight, no studs either!!! Just blew the dust off the apex, pulled it out of the trailer and got after it @ 12lbs on pump!!! I was using an MSD launch master though, which was only making about 1.5lbs @ takeoff, some better systems can make up to double digit boost #'s at no load! $180 cant go wrong though!

First and foremost you need to decide WHERE you want the power. In the low to mid range or mid to top end? Superchargers will give you everything down low and then fall flat, while a turbo is going to pick up in the midrange and pull hard to the rev limiter.

If you want low end oomph, then MPI has the market for superchargers.

If you are going turbo and want "the best" you can't go wrong with a big name like MCX or Impulse. They have all kinds of customer support and stellar reputations.

Whatever you get, you need to learn the system inside and out so when you need to do some tuning you won't be scratching your head.

not sure if you are talking only yamaha 4 stroke but if you are looking 4 stroke in general, go with the m1100(if you can afford it i mean). oem turboed, proven reliability, with a simple powerbox or standalone(branix) or ecu reflash, you get to 215 and up hp and not have to mess with installation of an aftermarket kit.......but it is HEAVY just like a nytro is....i have switch from a 2s to a 4s couple years ago and even if i was wrenching less, i was stock way more!!! so got back to 2s..... at the end pick the sled you like best and buy a kit you know you can get help close to you if needed.

good luck!

just my .02

IMO you cant go wrong with MCX, Alpine, or Impulse Nytro's, they all work great and are well built. Choose someone that is close for good customer service. Most important thing is to have it built and tuned by someone that knows what they are doing. I personally like the MCX Nytro's, great throttle response and amazing reliability. This MCX will climb with anything. :face-icon-small-win vvv

Ya, I won't do the install myself but will learn the system and do all maintenance myself. I would also get a turbo vs supercharged, I am going for the mid to top range. Thanks for all the input.

4 storke?? Is this the same guy that lives in cutbank montana???

Say it isnt so:face-icon-small-win:face-icon-small-win:face-icon-small-win

MCX run day in and day out....cant go wrong with a MCX 240 or 270 kit

LOL, one and only! I did say thinking, I might still be a season away though, we'll see. Some pretty nice builds out there and with how my POS 2ST ran I'm not impressed. lol
