TRS boost power valve

With 2 years of development and testing before its release, and another 3 months for someone to copy it, this validates the TRS PowerFlow valve.
Buy the original!!!
TRS Performance Inc celebrated 25 years in business this past year.
To be honest, I was really surprised to see this. I thought you guys were good friends from reading previous post. The valves looked so much alike, I was blowing up pictures of both of them and comparing them. Like always I'm sure there is more to the story.

The move seems awfully petty for a $75 undercut. Does it at least include a screen or is that an add on too?

Make it in plastic and release it for $250 and that's a different story.

@indydan writes a novel constantly referring to the TRS product as a skidoo valve to justify the copy. If it was so obvious why didn’t you launch it a couple years back?

Capitalism what it is, and The design not having a patent, cool make your own version i guess. But don’t pretend you didn’t rip off one of your suppliers.

Indy Specialty does not want to create hard feelings, just want to supply snowmobile & UTV side x side parts, Motors and service.

I am embarrassed to admit I had not idea TRS was in the retail selling of sled parts for 25 years until I saw the website a few months ago. ( and when I did see it I thought why are we stocking and advertising parts for a business that does not stock or sell any of our parts. )

I am still really confused about all the fuss about a check valve that skidoo implemented into their sleds long before POLARIS had a boost.

When Tom from TKI called me asking about coping the TRS valve he designed and produced I said I was a little surprised. I said this idea came from skidoo before Polaris had a Turbo. I then asked Tom if he wanted me to send him pictures of the skidoo airbox valve ? Tom promply said NO I don’t need to see the pictures I have one on my bench.

To me that means the skidoo valve was simply ordered by someone, and made to fit a Polaris.

How this could take 2 years to copy or fit into a Polaris I will never know.

But that’s what I am told.

I never dreamed a basic air check valve would turn into a NASA type don’t create any competition individualized part to anyone.

So that being said I think this whole thing is weird, I did not know competition was bad.

Obviously it is, so Indy Specialty will stop making the check valve. And When our shelf is empty we will not make anymore.

And as someone mentioned….. yes there is more to this story.

I apologize to anyone I offended.

Boy you seem like a real treat to work with.

Based off your comments, you decided to run a shop that sells 1P and 3P parts - Both your own stuff and stuff from others. Like Bass Pro. They have their own brand and sell other brands, like Carhartt.

One of your 3P brands decides to open up a D2C channel. They decide use this channel to sell their products direct. They aren't opening up another 3P shop - They are a 1P Shop.

When Carhartt started selling D2C, do you think Bass Pro said "why dont we have have our Bass Pro branded product available for salel on Carhartt's website?"

I really have no issue with the competition. However, the context you provided makes it feel like it was pure spite. Additionally, the price difference wouldn't have been enough for me to roll the dice. If you actually iterate/innovate upon this idea, or figure out how to manufacture (and sell) it for significantly less, its all good for the snowmobile industry.

Undercutting a former partner, now competitor, by less than 20% and having a **** defense as to why just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Good to see this before I bought any of your products though. Now I know who I would be working with and can spend my dollars with more earnest people.

Tony (TRS Performance) has been a wealth of knowledge for myself and also tons of other sledders. I've been using his clutching exclusively on my turbo sleds and have his power valve on my boost too. The advice I've gotten from him on other improvements to make to my sleds has been invaluable. Even though I've never met him in person I've got to know him over the phone and consider him a trusted friend.

Sad to see it go.

Anyhow I installed the trs valve on a flat land vr1 and never noticed a difference at all. Also my factory valve was sealing perfectly. I did notice I had quite a bit of oily residue in my air box so maybe that helped seal the factory valves(reeds). But on another note the trs alignment bar has done wonders to reduce my belt dust

In my experience, both Tony and Dan are great to work with. I'm a little surprised this situation developed: my understanding is they've done business and cooperated frequently in the past. Obviously, the basic idea goes back to Doo's valve, but Tony put a lot of effort into adapting and optimizing it for the Boost. Since it's a proven improvement, I suppose it figures somebody would make a cheaper version - and there might not be much to stop someone else from making another plastic version. Dan may well be correct about his rights to do so; obviously, how you or I feel about the "should you?" is another story. Dan's made his reasoning pretty clear; make of it what you will. TRS was first to market and the results seem quite positive, so make of that what you will. Dan doesn't have a history of ripping off other people's ideas and churning out cheap knock-offs (which happens regularly in the industry), so I'm more than willing to let it go as a one-time thing. Ultimately, it seems Dan's decided not to push it any farther, and I don't see much value in further discussion of the matter unless he or Tony feels the need for it.
