Linking Obama directly to high fuel costs?

Here's what Bush did when in this same situation 4 years ago....and it DID bring down prices quickly. Even though the President cannot effect oil prices :face-icon-small-dis

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/07/14/washington/14drillcnd.html?_r=1

From the source....
By itself, the move will have little impact, because Congress enacted a moratorium in 1982 that remains in place. But the step underscores the rising political pressure to address high oil and gasoline prices in the middle of an election year.

So he did what now?

He did SOMETHING....and he and his administration did not publically and for the record state that they WANT to have higher "European" like fuel prices in order to make alternative fuel more appealing and to level the playing field as far as costs.
How much sense does that make?....since alternative energy is so expensive, rather then work to bring those costs down...lets just make what we are using now more expensive.
I really think this guy is playing out the Cloward and Piven strategy. Why else would he do the things he has done....record spending in a time of major recession, unemployment and debt. Just doesn't make sense to me...but what do I know. I just don't like Obama. :face-icon-small-win

So bush made a speech and that counts as SOMETHING? :baby:

I am sure a link to an American Thinking blog would be appropriate now...

cause bailing out the banks was so much better than bailing out gm? ha ha

No way!
We can all agree that any bailout is wrong.
GW made his share of mistakes...... but this clown in there now is financially & morally ruining our great nation.

If there was a person who was Pro-American citizens they would win in an instant. Chit, if I was president the first thing I would do is
A) Take away aid to all hostile nations.
B) tighten border security x10. there would be a 35foot tall wall between us and mexico with a couple hundred yards of landmines mixed into the earth between 6inches and 25 feet deep in the ground(good luck making tunnels)
C) pull all troops home except in allied nations that need it such as Israel and the like.
D) close unnecessary bases in countries such as Germany.
E) Make minimal reductions to the debt if not maintain where it is now(american people need the money at this point in time)
F) improve infrastructure ie power grids, highways/interstates, and give grants to alternative energy researchers

The main idea is to go back to the old idea of isolationism. No more policing the world if you don't like it tough. After a couple years of that countries which hated us so much will come crawling on their knees back to us. Especially once we find a different energy source and no longer need their dam dirty oil and they all go broke!

Isn't most of this the foundation for Ron Paul's stance?

You are a fool if you thought I was referring to individuals.
People / individuals have morals... I guess I don't know what you were referring to..

I don't think it makes a difference who you were referring to anyways... still a ridiculous statement.

@ruff, I'm not sure exactly what Ron Paul's views are in terms of detail but I suppose he would feel the same way which is why I would vote ron paul if I could.

Oh I get it. Your intentionally acting stupid to try and start stuff. Good thing I can place you on my ignore list. Congrats your the first on it.

The article was written the days after his speech. Obviously it didnt have the results of the policy change.....doesnt happen overnight LOL.
Prices went from what is still the record high of near 5 a gallon to the now famous $1.84/ gallon when obama took over. So yes, he did something.
Obama could do more than he is...with epa regs, delay of permits etc...just get govt out of the way where possible.

That is a very loose causality from the effects of the speech and his action (which didn't do anything).

Interesting that it seems his energy secretary made the comments in this thread BEFORE he became energy secretary... lol

Regardless of whos to blame, what can be done NOW? These prices are killing me! $400+ a month just to drive to work is tough to swallow, its not like i drive very far or have some extravagent big truck. I can only imagine how much impact it has on the poor who are already struggling.
I do notice Obama places some blame on the republicans every chance he gets....i know its just election year politics but he also implies there is nothing he can do to effect prices, yet the republicans can?:face-icon-small-dis

What is your distance? What is your MPG? I only spend a little less then 200 a month to get to and from work, 22 miles each way, 24 mpg in my diesel liberty.

Most take public transportation...

Options:
1) public transportation
2) move closer to work
3) get a more efficient vehicle
4) change fuel source

Those are your options... it is time the USA starts seriously thinking about getting off the oil for transportation, and get on to other local sourced fuels. Natural gas, propane, biodiesel, ethanol, and electric using coal and other sources ....

With expected Chinese and Indian demand rapidly increasing, there isn't much else that we can do. We could produce all of our own oil, but that wouldn't change the fact that oil is priced globally and is a global good.

T. Boone Pickens on Natural Gas

His issues of natural security and wealth transfer are the top issues and reasons for getting off oil.
