Linking Obama directly to high fuel costs?

Why does our energy secretary want to raise gas prices?....while at the same time they "have no control" over pricing?? Isn't he expressing the desire to regulate what we pay at the pump?? In the opposite direction what what the consumer would like?
I agree they should stay out of it....but they want to have even more control over pricing according to the energy secretary comments...which conservatives, as you said...are against.

I think we need to be careful in talking what the energy secretary states as an official agenda of the government..

As to his comments, I don't think he wants more control, just to have it increase faster than it already is... I guess inflation is doing that for us anyways.

The biggest issue facing the US right now is that ~21 oil refineries went offline in the last year due to age and disrepair. Similar issue are found in Europe. So, while the oil might be here, we are a bit pinched as to refining. Could the oil companies have dug into their pockets and fixed these lines to prevent the rise to $5? Sure, but why when you make the same weather you drive the price up or keep it low with increased demand? Oil companies and banks play more games than politicians. :face-icon-small-fro

what if the story of the outdated equipment is all based on lies.

im pretty sure the oil guys, bankers and politicians are all part of the same global scheme.

You can lower gas prices by allowing endless drilling in the usa, and ending OPEC dominance in the world market. I dont have a problem paying 3 bucks a gallon for gas, I have a problem paying 3 bucks for gas made from OPEC oil.
Anyone who votes for Obama is an IDIOT! Had to throw that in.

I am sure if the price went to 6 bucks a gallon there would be a lot more domestic oil production around...

The feds don't control all of the land.. hence look at North Dakota..

DISCO you ROCK!!!

I hope Obama does not get re-elected for sure. While he may not control the oil and gas prices I think it is safe to say he has not helped any.

What I find interesting is the last time we paid this high of gas prices oil was at what 140-150 dollars a barrel. It is at 105-110 or so now. What do you think gas will cost when we get back up to 140-150 dollars for a barrel? Can you say bail out, free money for all. Ha the dollars value is in the toilet from the bail outs. Nothing to back all that new money that got printed. But I am sure the economy is going to rebound this year. That way someone can get re-elected.

But the good part is I still live in the the good old USA.
:usa2:

Ok ruffy, riddle me this:
Debbie Wasserman Shultz, DNC chairwoman, ranted and raved on the floor of the house that the high price of gas was due to Bush's fault. She ranted and raved about him being tied to the big oil companies and that he was a failed leader in energy bla bla bla.
Just the other day, when she was asked about it and comparing today's prices to then, she said flat out, that it was not BHO's fault, but was Bush's.
So let me remind you resident Democrat punks who have no idea what is going on, that Obama had 1.70 a gallon(or so) when he took office. Gas was 1.70 with the inception of Bush implementing new oil drilling leases. It made the speculators realize that we can in fact, get more of our own oil and that we were not afraid of OPEC.
But Obama, is the opposite. He does not care about the people, nor does he care about employers who give them jobs and has been quoted as saying he wants, he WANTS higher gas prices, so when some one telles me that he cant do anything about it, I can only laugh at the idiocy of the argument because he can do something, he however, does nothing because he can. I for one, am sick of all politicians, but Obama.........he is number one on my list of most hated.

What is the riddle? Or is this an "It's Obama's fault" rant?

i don't know if it's Obamas fault, but it sure is the democrats, no new oil, no new refining, no new hydro, rip out old hydro, no nuke power, they want all fluffy unreliable wind and solar power and the like, as long as they can't see it and ruins their view. P.S. They are after your sled and areas you ride too.

and the lazy must drive a car one block american that lacks impulse control and even the slightest ability to problem solve has no responsibility for the high price of fuel?

Here is a recent summary of who imports from where.
But to cut to the chase: basically all the major oil companies buy at least part of their oil from OPEC countries. Sinclair and Flying J, plus possibly Maverick and Arco are the only ones that don’t.
.
Sources of crude oil are marked as such. Countries with no designation supply partially refined products, but there is no information about where the crude these products are made from originated. Quite likely the original crude is also an OPEC product. OPEC countries are in Bold.

BP buys from OPEC Countries:
ANGOLA (Crude Oil)
IRAQ (Crude Oil)
SAUDI ARABIA (Crude Oil)
CANADA (Crude Oil)
ARGENTINA (Crude Oil)
TRINIDAD & TOBAGO
VIRGIN ISLANDS, U.S.
VENEZUELA
RUSSIA
BELGIUM
BELARUS
FRANCE
UNITED KINGDOM
SWEDEN
NETHERLANDS
PERU
NIGERIA (Crude Oil)

Conoco/Phillips buys from OPEC Countries:
JAPAN
TAIWAN
CANADA
GHANA
TUNISIA
PERU
BELGIUM
ESTONIA
GERMANY
COTE D’IVOIRE(IVORY COAST)
TRINIDAD & TOBAGO
KOREA, SOUTH
NIGERIA (Crude Oil)
LIBYA (Crude Oil)
ANGOLA (Crude Oil)
CONGO (BRAZZAVILLE) (Crude Oil)
SAUDI ARABIA (Crude Oil)
VENEZUELA (Crude Oil)
ALGERIA (Crude Oil)
MEXICO (Crude Oil)
IRAQ (Crude Oil)

Arco isn’t listed as importing anything

Flying J. imports only crude oil from
CANADA

Sunoco buys from OPEC Countries:
CANADA (Crude Oil)
GABON (Crude Oil)
NIGERIA (Crude Oil)
RUSSIA (Crude Oil)
FRANCE
PERU
NORWAY
CHAD

Sinclair imports from
CANADA (Crude Oil only)

Hess imports no crude oil at all, but imports partially refined distillates (crude origin unknown) from
NETHERLANDS ANTILLES
VIRGIN ISLANDS, U.S.
CANADA
ALGERIA
DENMARK
SWEDEN
NETHERLANDS

Maverick is not listed as importing anything.

Valero buys from OPEC Countries:
IRAQ
BRAZIL
ECUADOR
VENEZUELA
SAUDI ARABIA
ALGERIA
AUSTRALIA
COLOMBIA
KUWAIT
ECUADOR
COLOMBIA
MEXICO
EQUATORIAL GUINEA
UNITED KINGDOM
RUSSIA
BELGIUM
ARUBA
COLOMBIA
LIBYA

Walmart (Murphy Oil) buys from OPEC Countries:
NIGERIA
SAUDI ARABIA
RUSSIA
CANADA
.
Shell, ExxonMobile and Chevron also buy from OPEC countries, and Citgo is owned by an OPEC country (VENEZUELA).

From http://www.eia.doe.gov/oil_gas/petroleum/data_publications/company_level_imports/cli.html

The price of a barrel of oil is set by OPEC. OPEC member countries include Algeria, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Libya, Nigeria, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, and Venezuela. That means that companies that import oil from some countries NOT in the Middle East are still supporting OPEC’s high prices.

That leaves only Sinclair and Flying J, plus possibly Maverick and Arco, as the only companies that don’t import oil from OPEC countries, and possibly only Maverick and Arco as using only U.S. oil.

Not many options here.

no new oil
what about north dakota?
no new refining
not needed, don't need the capacity
no new hydro
There are not any good hydro spots left in the US. They have all been used.
rip out old hydro
yep, couple of small ones are being ripped out... this is a very small percentage..
no nuke power
permit for one was just released...
they want all fluffy unreliable wind and solar power and the like
it reliable... just reliably variable... in the next 10 years it will get a lot better as people become familiar with it.

I am not sure why you think it is the governments roll to build hydro plants, nuke plants, drill for oil, or build refineries? I thought the point was small government? lol

The govt has to allow it....permits, environmental studies, more permits, more planning, more delay, more money.
Could you imagine what it would take to build (for example) interstate 90 today? It used to be they just did it....have a plan and do it, far less govt interfearance and union regulation....and less time and cost.

Says you. I think we do, especially if one or more plants have issues.

There are lots of good hydro spots left in the U.S. I'll bet it would be impossible to put up new hydro for all the enviros(dems)

So, why take it out????

B.S. If you want power everytime you flip a switch it is not. Try talking to ag folks with their wind only systems.

I don't think it is either and never said it was, it just seems to be the dems job to try and stop it all. They are the party of the enviro-wackos.

What is the riddle? Or is this an "It's Obama's fault" rant?

So he counteracts the point being made and now it's a rant??? As opposed to all of the other "rants" being made. Contribute to the discussion. I dare ya. Yeah, you are "that guy" in yet another cliche' internet discussion.
