Well I am back and finally found a moment to do a write up on my Lasik Experience.
I went to Mt Ogden Eye Center and had my surgery preformed by Dr Balif.
I had free screenings done at Moran Eye center at the U of U and Mt ogden. I found both staff to be very informative and super helpful. I had co-workers that had it done at each place. 2 things influenced my decision to go with Mt Ogden. 1- it was $200 cheaper and 2- closer to my home. The third would be that the Tech who met with me her husband was a snowmobiler
After weighing my options i decided i had to go with the custom lasik (intralase) with free lifetime touch ups as needed. Mt Ogden works with Capitol One health and offeres up to 18 months 0% financing. This works out really well because I now have time to pool funds from the HSA and pay for the operation tax free!
Operation day. I arrived about 7:30 AM and had meetings to sign some forms and get a last minute check up, and post op instructions. Everything was good to go and i was seated in line to wait for my surgery. I was given a few drops of something in my eyes that made them numb. Then i grabbed hold of the HOT A$$ nurse and she led me into the operating room. I asked her if she would hold my hand during the procedure but turns out she was married but doesnt wear her ring in surgery room
hahaha she gave me kermit the frog stuffed animal to hold instead...
So i laid down on the chair and the doc pulls up the old eyelids and puts the "stretcher" on my eye. Thats fine no discomfort. Then proceeds to put me under the laser. Just watch the red light he says. I hear some clicking and whirring and feel a slight pressure on my eye like someone is squezing it. After about 14 second of that, the lens cut was made by laser and then they repeated the same thing on my other eye. Then i say this metal object get really close to my eye. Peeling back the lens. Then back under the laser. Just look at the red light for a few seconds they say. The computer then locked on to my eye and the more whirring and clicking and i see flashes of light. Then the doc puts a drop of something in my eye, folds the flap back down and they tape a goggle over that eye. Repeat for the other eye. All in all i was in the room for maybe 6 minutes.
I was then escorted out of the operating room back to the lobby. They gave me a pair of sunglasses and i was free to go. At home was the worst part, you cant watch TV, no reading, no computer, no activities... i just put on the tv and listened... let me tell you there are alot of stupid soap operas on all day, especially when all you can do is listen to the idiotic things they say!!! I had to put drops in the eyes every hour. And i went through alot of the post lasik tears vials to keep my eyes from drying out. By friday morning i could see well enough to drive to my next day check up. left eye is 20/15 and right eye is 20/20 with a little starburst and haze. They say the haze is normal and will fade after a week or two. Best way i can describe it is looking through a dirty contact. You can still see great, just a little murkey around the edges. All in all I would say it was worth every penny. It will only get better when i can actually snowmobile without having to stop and fix my contacts every so often! I just wish i could have afforded it along time ago!!!
