I have come off that lake when no boat should have been out there. We were "footing "glass all afternoon long, when we went to leave and hit the main body it was NASTY......Being in a Ski boat when every wave is coming over the bow (with enough water to wash you off the "dog box") is not a fun experience. I still thank the big guy above that we weren't in an open bow.
We've had the same experience on Lake Powell and once at the Gorge. Very amazing to go from glass and then giant waves I thought only the ocean could produce. One of our trips in Powell last season about made the kids never want to boat again. They were so scared and we were also thanking the big guy above for not having an open bow. Holy, friggin huge waves. The nose of the boat was straight up and then it would slap down so hard. The kids were in the cuddy screaming and bawling their heads off. That was the longest trip we've ever had across Halls to Bullfrog Bay. I wish I had video, it was intense forsure.
The storm at the Gorge produced giant waves and we lost visibility, with a hail storm. Short vid of it. Not the worst of it of coarse, To busy holding on.
I don't know how we didn't hit land. Sledhead and his friend navigated the boat safely.
We love boating, after all it is on melted snow right?
