Keep the m8 or upgrade?

Hey guys, not sure if there is a thread like this, if so sorry. I have a 2010 m8, was wondering if my money would be better spent upgrading to a newer sled for 2k (pry an xm) or spending 2k on a BB or a turbo on my sled? My sled has a few good upgrades already has kmod , skinz front end and has raptors all the way around, 2.6 pc, and a bunch of lite weight parts. Motor is fresh with only 600 miles on it.

I don't think you will get much of a turbo or Bigbore for 2k. I would say minimum 3.. And you will be 4 by the time its all done. I just built my 8th bigbore. Was 5,800 in everything.. That was all high end parts. But just the basics would have been 3,500. 2,100 is just the bore, port, pistons and and little bit of machine work for the head and valves. You will still need exhaust, programmer, intake modifications, clutching and on and on.. Turbo will be a 3rd more

If you upgrade sleds, will the power itch still persist? If so, then you are spending $2k to upgrade, then another $xx? for BB or turbo.

Thanks for the input, but basically everyone in my group is upgrading to xms and the new technology. Haven't rode with one yet. Was just wondering if the new technology is that much better and wondering if the BB would help out the older technology get closer to the newer stuff?

I know is should just ride what I have and be happy but it's always a competition between us

You have enough motor to keep up to the new ones. But seeing you just rebuilt the motor I would go turbo, run 6 to 8lbs with a splash of race gas in every tank. you might be able to find a good used turbo setup for 2grand. Check KSL I saw a boondocker setup on there for about that price week or so ago.. Just checked still there, its in WY 2 grand with some new clutching parts included.

Old style 33, it sounds like you have a very nice sled just the way it is. I too wondered the same thing. I have an 09 M8 with a SLP stage III setup and many other mods and it works great. All my buddies have purchased new M8000s. After really wanting a Polaris Axys, I ended up getting a M8000 as well due to the amazing deals on them. Luckily I was able to keep my M8. So now, I will be able to do a direct comparison from my narrowed up M8 to the new M8000 with a 2016 front end.

In your case, I would call the guys at SLP. They have told me several times that the 2010+ H.O. motors are absolute animals with their stage III kit. They may not be quite as high of hp as a turbo but, I can tell you my stage III kit (non H.O. motor 170 h.p.) and the 2.6" Powerclaw feels like a poor man's turbo and works very well.

Best of luck to you.

How do you like to ride? For tight, technical maneuvers the M is way more precise and will hold an edge much more consistently. The XM with its narrower stance and t-motion will start to roll over easier, but is a little quirky in some of it's mannerisms.

I agree with boondocker97 that this question can only be answered by knowing how you ride. Do you have some video of you and your buddies?

Thanks for the input fellas, I do not have any Videos, sad I know, but we are more into technical riding (pretty tight trees). Don't do much point and shoot hill climbs. Not pros by anymeans! Ride the snowys about 8 times a year for the past 10 years.

I have not thought about the stage III slp kit. Something I should look into!

Another questions for you guys. I just got off the phone with slp asking about their stage III kit. I have a speedwerx tunnel dump now, will the tunnel dump work with a stageIII? The guy I talked to didn't sound like he knew much about it, just said it won't work. As I would prefer to stay with the tunnel dump.

i don't think the tunnel dump will work on the proclimb as the chain case is now on that side. JMO i would just do the stage II kit when it comes down to best bang for the buck. the III is nice but your now down to custom cylinders and head work so if you mess one up you have to send it out to slp to be re cut if it can't be repaired.

tunnel dump

I am in the situation as you, the same slep, the same tunnel dump. My dealer has a real good deal on a slp pipe. SLP said I would have to do the whole pipe set. Just because of where the pipe and can connect is in a different location. ( I think ) But anyway decided not to, I also wanted to keep tunnel dunp. I have decided to upgrade my track. 2.6 powerclaw

When you started this thread I sent you a pm, I have a complete pump gas turbo for 2010 m8.

I also want a new axys, just going to ride the cat this year.

Good luck, Hope this makes sense typing on this tablet is pain.

to upgrade or not

OLD STYLE
i was also in same boat as you, i decided to go turbo and have no regrets.
i bought a sled already set up and was much cheaper than buying a new kit.
that was going on 3 years ago and still loving it. i have no plans on going newer any time soon. i live in Laramie so let me know when you come to town, i will let you ride it so you can decide whats best for you

I'm in a similar situation as you guys having the speedwerx tunnel dump, I bet if you can speedwerx they could come up with a package similar to the SLP stage III. If I'm not mistakin the stage III is full exh system, controller, and cylinder porting?
