It's a sad day

Assault,

You turn up your oiler, oil in gas, ran ethanol plug (5% richer)? Any suggestion? Which oil you use?

Go figure I just talked to another guy who had 2700 miles and everything was good also. Could it be just bad castings, like I said before the china man used recycled metal.
Assault 11 what is the terrain like in Red Deer? What is your elevation you ride at ? Did you turn up your oil pump, run extra oil in each tank. How many of those miles are trail riding ?
Please explain hard riding ? Do not take this as busting your chops it is just to compare.
We ride from 3000 to 6000 mostly skid roads and clear cuts, we have a great trail system but only ride it when we put on a fun run ( 150 mile YR ).This sled was ran for a yr in the hill climb circuit in the stock class plus was his everyday sled it had 900 miles on it when I purchased it . The last 600 + miles are mine just back and forth to church .

Maybe I've been lucky, but I just had new pistons and rings put in an 11 3300 miles never babied always added a few ounces per fill never missed a beat. Hearing lots of horror stories the last 2 years but an awful lot of pro's in our area and that kinda talk travels fast around here, but sure never heard about many failures, plus the 2 poo shops here haven't done many motors since the dragon calamity. Feel crappy for the guys who lost riding time but around here, other than on the 4m , they've been subject to no higher failure rate than the normal expectation from all the brands, no better, no worse. Not sure if I had to do the pistons but I really have enjoyed the sled and spending a few hundred dollars after 2 years, I'm ok with . It would be kinda tuff around here to blow a pro engine and sneak it past the doo and cat guys who are just waiting to say I told you so, but it hasn't happened more than the rest, in fact the last 2 years we r still pulling home a hell of a lot more 08,09 doo,s with motor issues than we r pros. And dragons, steady, pos. Cats have been solid (motors).
Now hopefully karma doesn't come bite me on the *** for posting.

I only ride the hills, 25 mile access groomed trail to the hills , then mostly mountains, and meadows 4 to 7000 ft, probably majority 6 ish, we get up to 8-9000 but that's the exception. Lots of snow every year so mostly deep snow, not much hard pack touring, I pretty much put it away as soon as the spring snow starts. In that 3300 miles I've tried a couple different heads, tied clutch, different springs weights and always had the slp pipe can and controller. Nevere geared from stock and ran 2.5 Camo extreme for 2500 miles, just switched to 174 ce and a PA 13.1 head.
Fun sled, so far so good.

Slick where are you from ? Did you do the top end or did the dealer do it ? I am just wondering on how the rings looked if they were flaking at all ?

Sled shop did the work, i"m a mechanical dumma$$. he said the pistons and rings didn't look scarey bad for 3300 miles. We ride mainly Kakwa (north western BC/Alberta), few trips each year to McBride, Valemount/Blue River, few times Red Deer Falls and Powder King areas.

I have always wanted to take a scooter ride up there .

Make a plan, great riding group, huge areas, typically lots of snow. You pretty well need to hook up with someone with a camp out there to enjoy it to the fullest.

I don't put many miles on at home. Mostly ride in revelstoke 5000-7000 feet. We ride deep deep powder almost every trip from early November till end of march so lots and lots of WOT. I just checked where my oiler was set and it was actually way lower than it should be. And I usually mix 150ml oil per tank in the gas. I have always used redline racing oil. It's by far the best oil there is in my opinion. I run the non ethanol plug

I do not see this as a oil issue there are people running Walmart oil and not having any problems. I run Amsoil and have run poo gold they look similar .
It is going to be a interesting yr with all the different kits out there addressing this non issue.
The only thing I know for sure is if you do not carry a warranty than I would be pulling my mono block off and check it out, rings and gaskets are cheap compared to the $4500 for a engine which is just plain robbery .

beamslayer sorry for your troubles. Makes you wonder why 10-15% of people have the problem and 85-90% don't. If it was just total crap for an engine you wouldn't have guys like Slick with 3000 hard miles just needing a freshen up and others with 500 miles and kaboom. I saw on another thread that guys were doing pistons on new sleds before they even rode them. I for one wouldn't buy a Pro if I felt i needed to do pistons in a brand new sled. I have a 13 coming, just going to ride it with a stone stock drivetrain. If it pops I will ride the backup. Even having to think like that sucks, most guys don't have a backup. I think that taking a look at these engines in the off season was really smart. Either save your self a lot of money or a lot of downtime. My buddy checked his 12 at the end of last years riding season and found problems so he had all summer to get warranty to give him a new monoblock.

The day started out good bought a 163 track this morning .finished tearing my engine down to install my kit from mtntk performance. Thats when things got sad. 1495 miles on my assault with turned up oil pump and added extra oil in the gas for the last 600 miles. Rings are flaking and my cylinder is cracked. I checked compression before t/d 120 psi and that with a 13/1 PA head. There is .0079 piston clearance on both cylinders isn't polaris specs 4.5 to 5.
I am so glad I quit riding it last spring other wise it would have gone Kaboom.

BS, Sorry to hear about your engine issues and to be honest it just makes me sick and unfortunately I also have a 11 Pro and I am concerned with as well. The best protection unfortunately is not from Polaris and the questionable designed 800 but it is from a extended warranty contract as long as you sell or trade before your warranty expires or your own insurance company when you accidentally drive into a big tree? And if you drive into a big tree you will need liability insurance if you need liability insurance you may need health insurance too! Good luck with your engine project and it may be worth considering a long rod kit or the fix it kit from mtntk.

Of all the 800 motor problems I have read here on Snowest, I again wonder.......... how many were stock motors? Exhaust? Clutching? Etc?:face-icon-small-hap

Thanks guys . It sure sucks having to dump a grand into it I would be alot happier if it was some cool add on instead of fixing one of poos problems . See ya on the mnt.
