Island Park Snow Conditions for 22-23 season.

Coming on the 18th for a week, we'll keep praying to the snow gods, forecast is looking ok. Last year we came in February during the dry spell, which sucked for powder. Two Tops and Blacks Canyon looked like a parking lot. It was hard to find any areas that weren't tracked out. We have a new couple coming with us so we won't be doing anything extreme this year, never ridden sleds before so we'll see.....
We are heading into our yearly WARM UP right now.
The snow is good, and there is more coming, but be prepared for WARM temps.
Probably just a little bit below freezing up on top of the mountains.
Yesterday was an OPEN ALL THE VENTS on the suit kinda day!

Thank God for POWERED GOGGLES!

Be careful around lion head the avy forecast isn’t great!
I just don't do Lion Head, too many riders lost there over the years.
I made a promise to my wife and kids to always come home after a day of riding.
I do all I can to keep that promise.
Riding Lion Head generally just isn't worth the risk.
Its so damn unstable over there.

I'll save that risk for a trip up to Cooke City. ;)

I bet … it’s deep enough out by the lake for a new rider to actually have fun doing powder turns but not so hard to side hill and balance like the mountains? I actually haven’t been do n this year cause it’s good up here too but I bet? Be careful around lion head the avy forecast isn’t great!
I think your right, we have been coming up annually for the last 7 years except one for COIVD.... We always do the horse butte loop and madison trail the first morning we ride so everyone can get used to the sled. When we have a group we stay away from loinshead. My wife and I are planning a trip to Revelstoke for next year, just us so we can really enjoy the powder!!!

riding both lionhead and Cooke city I would pick lionhead every time if they were rated the same from avy center.

I suppose it GREATLY depends on exactly WHERE you go riding at either site.
There is plenty of VERY safe riding to be had in Cooke, if you pick and chose.
Same goes for Lionhead.

not as of now,was hoping to meet up with a sled or two.i would like to meet up with local that knows the area well.nothing wild,or extreme,i like boondocking and the more open tree lines that arent super steep.
