Island Park Snow Conditions for 22-23 season.

We’ll be back the week after, forecast looks solid until then, hope so.

I saw several personal landmarks covered deeper this past week than I’ve seen ever in my years there….

It’s already ridiculously deep. We tried picking up today from where we left off yesterday and it never stopped snowing since we left yesterday. Visibility was the problem. I didn’t dare venture any further already couldn’t see. Taking tomorrow off to recoup ride Saturday Sunday.

Heading down with my son from Gallatin Gateway MT here in a few minutes. Does anyone know if a guy can park a crew cab truck w/ 28’ enclosed trailer at the Springhill Hill Suites / Marriott at Mack’s Inn. At the advice of Christopher we are going to go explore the Black Canyon loop for the first time. Any tips on little pockets with mixed terrain that would encourage skill building would be much appreciated.

Now that the storm has moved on it might be different..... but I was unable to navigate the upper side of the loop yesterday. We made it up top but visibility and drifting on the trail was too much. You can get up to the two trails that head north though.

Not sure of the skill level, but we are novice. There were alot of pockets up there but we only went in 2 of them. And good grief was it deep lol, you will definitely be able to practice 180s and stuff. Down low it basically rained....the snow has a heavy crust on top (as of about 4pm yesterday) so the powerline snow over here that isn't tracked out is very easy to practice on if you don't mind the extra work. We were much more comfortable in the two top area yesterday than black canyon due to the weather. It did seen alot more technical than the areas we saw @ two top. Park at the flats and cross. Knock a few trees ( logging path to a easy peezy side hill into the trees or just climb to your left and you'll be in a good area. We left plenty of snow wednesday ). And not alot of people are here.

Yes, I had a 34’ gooseneck in the Marriott upper lot. Need to access from above by the little church in the pines, from below is pretty slick.

Thanks all! We had a great day. We actually put down fresh tracks and didn’t see another soul until we came around to the “upper 1/2” of the Black Canyon loop. Pretty sketchy in a few areas due to drifting.

Did you find anyone if you’re still riding today? I’m in Bozeman, looking for someone or a group to ride with. Not opposed to making the trip down to IP.
Didn’t find anyone so I played close to a trail for a while and went back home.
