Is the Belt drive worth it over the chaincase?

IMHO this only happens when you do not maintenance the chain case. A properly maintained chain case will not explode.

A bolt backed out on mine between services with fresh fluid, proper tension, etc....not much I could do about it aside from having the case apart before that particular ride.

Replace the chain every season, change the oil every season depending on miles you put on and make sure has proper tension before every ride. I would rather have a belt drive.

I did that and still had a chain case destroy itself from a bearing letting loose.

Thats some bad luck with your PRO:face-icon-small-dis. Anyone owning a 11 or 12 Pro you have nothing to worry about with having a chain case if you properly maintain and service. Yes the belt drive is a better option, but the hyvo chain and gears are best in the biz.

A belt drive is going to be better for the sheer fact there is no maintenance, no added weight for oil and if those belts are anything like cmx belts they are bombproof. If you gained nothing else it is worth it to me. I do think anybody that has to have a belt drive is crazy if they don't get the 13. You will never get the money back on an 11 or 12. The price difference between the 12 and 13 is just a little bit more than what a cmx drive costs and you will be a year newer. The biggest thing the 11-12 are lacking, that you won't get on a 13, is shocks. If you are dying to spend money on the 12 get shocks or airframes. If you have to have a belt drive get a 13.

IMHO the belt drive looks nice, but I'm not going to trade in my sled and lose thousands just to have it. As mh said, depends how fat your wallet is.

Bottom line is our Polaris chains and chaincases are very durable. Just keep your chain tension tight and change the chaincases fluid annually and that chain should last a decade on a stock sled -- it should easily outlast a track anyways, and replacing a chain with the same frequency has always worked for myself and guys I know. On the other hand, changing gears, adding big hp like turbo's, and neglect will cause chaincase failure.

I guess my point is dont be fooled to go buy a brand new 2013 just because this belt drive is on there. Ya it's durable, but chaincases are too. Shoot, we all drive a sled with a 20% or so failure rate on the motor. It's the motor that's going to leave you stranded, not the chain case.

If you ride stock, get the longest warranty possible. One of the best reasons to upgrade stockers. Everyone should know - front shock lengths are different on 11/12's and 13 pros - you can't retrofit 11/12 shocks on a 13 pro without changing the front arms. Don't know about the rear skid front arm, yet, with the change in 13 pros to a bonded front arm. FWIW.

The only way anyone is going to know for sure what a belt drive does on a pro is to run a 2012 over a measured area, pull in, put a belt drive on and run the same course.......period.

It's like a sprint car motor, would you like the crower titanium rods sir? Yes there lighter, yes there stronger, yes it will work a tad better, oh and btw they cost 3500.00 more than the steel. Your choice? :face-icon-small-dis
