April 10, 2009 Report

Took a little spin up at Lake Irwin today...

Most snow is sub-baked slush coated with Utah/Arizona red-dust, some with 2-4" of wind-blown fresh on top of it in places. Pockets of clean/fresh in the north/east facing trees.

We're loosing base fast at lower elevations, but once you get to the "Y", you're looking at 4-6' of base pretty consistently. Go-anywhere snow.

There were a few skier lines coming off of the highest summit of Ruby - amazing lines! (they set off a slush-slide in the 1st rock band down)

The trail out and back is spring slush w/ 3-6' of base.

Spring has sprung!

MD.

GAR - I think we'll easily make my earlier prediction! ;-) But the cat is ready to hybernate for the summer as dicsussed.

The Grand Junction crew will be back up for one more ride this year. Thanks for keeping the trail to ES in great shape.

Hey, if anyone is headed up to Kebler from the north side(Paonia) this weekend, post or PM me.. I'd love to get a ride in..

Sorry, AJ - didn't see the post in time.

Just took a spin - lots of evidence of melting (Rivers cutting through in a few places), but above the lake there's still 8-12' of base and below the lake it's probably 6-8' of base.

There was 4" of fresh snow on top of what was probably sun-baked slush above the "Y". The road up to the Y is slush bumps.

MD.

No problem... I was hoping to ride today but my ridin' buddies over here all woosed out. They're not die-hards so I'm still looking for more people to ride with. Anyone headed up to Kebler this week at all?

April 27, 2009

Fast moving storm came through last night.
Left 2" in town, possibly more above.
Still 3-5' of base above the "Y".
Best snow is in the trees and high up on North facing slopes.

Bright, sunny Bluebird skies today!

If you can cause an avalanche at this point, you should be buying lottery tickets on a daily basis!

;-)

May 3rd

2-3" Fresh on top of a mix of slush & mud bumps up till the "Y".
Solid spring pack from the Y and above.

Gunnison County should probably push the trailhead back to the Gravel Pit this week.

Hey GAR - you owe me lunch!
6 wks and we're still looking at some pretty decent base up there!
Although riding kebler pass to get to it will pulverize ya.

Maybe we can attach the drag to your Apex?

;-)

"if" we get a 2 ft dump this weekend it might stretch it out a couple more.

I don't have a rock sled, I am a powder snob>>

Lunch!

I don't remember any wager...I will talk to Greg and see if I can get a tank of fuel dumped in it and go out for fun sometime next week?

I am not hooking up the drag, it needs some TLC anyway

250....miles is what I already have on the XR400 for the season
that is 10x the miles I put on the A tank this season

LoL!!!!!!

County pushed it back to the gravel pit and went out for lunch....till next week.
While I'd love to go push some snow off of the road for them, I don't think GUC would be very happy if we grousered up to gravel pit.

Sunny & 80 in Durango!

Definately an early demise to the season..

Gunnison County finally got their game on and made a real push towards the "Y".
Last year this process began in late June.

Still lots of good spring slush riding above!

A few pics from Friday. (Y & Independence Basin)
South facing slopes are melting rapidly, rivers are full.
2-4' in North facing slopes and under tree cover.

Still riding sleds from the Y into Townsite.
County should have the road plowed into the Townsite by mid-week.
