Kathy Kay Solberg
New Ulm — Kathy Kay Solberg, 56, of New Ulm, died Saturday, March 8, 2008 at her home after a 12-year battle with breast cancer.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 12, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in New Ulm with Pastor Todd Nelsen officiating. Burial will be in the New Ulm City Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4 - 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 7:30 - 8:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm and will continue for one hour prior to the time of service at the church on Wednesday.
Kathy is survived by her husband, Alan Solberg of New Ulm; daughter and son-in-law, Nicole and Darren Anderson of New Ulm; sons and daughters-in-law, Chad and Tammy Wieben of Stewart, Darin and Becky Solberg of Wahpeton, North Dakota, Jamie and Brandi Wieben of Colorado Springs, Colorado; grandchildren, Alex Solberg, Jaylin Solberg, Nickolas Wieben, Chase Wieben, Malorie Anderson, Brody Wieben; brothers and sisters-in-law, Gary and Karen Kohn, Tim and Lori Kohn all of Courtland; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Roger Solberg of Minneapolis, Janice and Jerry Orvik of Fargo, North Dakota, Diane and Wayne Johnson of Lakota, North Dakota, Pat and Tom Wheeler of Augusta, Montana, and Paul and Sheri Solberg of Devils Lake, North Dakota.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her first husband, Richard Wiehr; and mother-in-law, Enid Solberg.
Kathy Kay Kohn was born on November 21, 1951 in New Ulm to Marvin and Florence (Lindemann) Kohn. She was a graduate of New Ulm Public High School. On February 21, 1970 she was united in marriage to Richard Wiehr of Mankato. They had a one son, Chad. Richard did not return from the Vietnam War. Kathy then married Edward Wieben on April 20, 1974. They had two children, Jamie and Nicole. On July 27, 1996 she was united in marriage to Alan Solberg. Kathy was a stay at home mom until working at DAC, Runnings, 3M, and Thrifty White until beginning her second fight with cancer. She enjoyed antiquing, golfing, spending time with her grandchildren, vacationing in Florida, feeding birds and planting flowers.
