installing a turbo on my IQR.. Have questions.

I bought an areocharger 53 series kit for an RMK 600. I am going to use it on the same motor, but in my IQR. I have a few questions.

Does the length of the charge tube make a difference?

Does bends in the charge tube effect anything?

Does the design of the boost box matter? This one will need to be modded to fit into my chassis and I want to make sure I wont be screwing up the runability.

This turbo has a muffler type can on it. Can this be removed and fitted with just an exhaust outlet like most other turbo's w/out affecting performance?

Can the intake tube be modded and shaped or shortened to fit better w/out affecting anything?

These are the questions I have regarding this. I have looked all around for this information and cannot locate anything. Any information regarding these would be great!:face-icon-small-hap

From the research ive done, your air box should be twice depth of the size of your carbs, so if you have 38mm carbs air box depth should be 76mm.

I don't believe charge tube length or bends will affect anything, but don't quote me.

You can swap out your muffler for a straight pipe, won't affect performance. It will be louder though.

Intake tube should be fine to mod.

Doesn't the IQR run a high compression head? If so youll want to change that out.

Hope this helps, im currently boosting my 700 edge rmk so this is all info I have researched.

Stock, the IQR runs a high compression head. In mine I am running a stock RMK 600HO motor so its good to go. As far as the airbox goes, I will have to mod it to fit over my jackshaft, so I would probably just cut a half moon shape all the way accross the bottom and then seal it back up with 1/2 a pipe. This way it would still sit flat, but avoid the jackshaft. Will this still work ok? I may not have to do this, but just checking to see if I did need to if it is going to cause any problems.

I think you should be ok with that. you planning on running race or av gas?

If you haven't already, you should read thru the carbed two stroke thread. Tons of good info, I have read it about 8 times now, lol.

I will be running AV gas. Race gas is available here, but is hard to find. With lower boost, I may even be able to run pump gas.. I will figure that part out later though.. I did read through that thread.. as far as a could anyway.. being a basic member limits me.. I am debating paying the $$ to become a member solely for that thread only..!:twitch: It sucks I have to pay to read peoples advise and information that they provided for free though..

Yea I agree, that thread is the reason I paid. To me it was worth it.

Who did you buy the kit from, who is the manufacturer? You might be able to contact them for more info?

If your kit uses a hobbs switch you will want to ditch that. My kit came with one.

What is a hobbs switch? This kit is an Aerocharger kit. It uses the 53 turbo and was built for an RMK 600. The motor is identical and under the hood is more compact on the IQR, but all in all its almost the same..

A hobbs switch makes the fuel electric fuel pump increase fuel to the carbs. Its an old way of raising your fuel pressure.

Thenew way is plumbing a line from the fat part of your exhaust to your fuel pressure regulator. That way as your boost rises so does your fuel pressure.

Thats some good information. Do you happen to have any pictures of how this is setup on yours?

you dont need a hobbs switch at all, thats oldschool. setting carbs up for boost is stupid easy. also, if your really going throught this, join to read the carb turbo thread, its worth a LOT more then $10. it will save you days worth of hassle.

for airbox, try to keep it rather large. a lot of the older kits run tiny little guys just big enough to get the charge tube seperated into each carb, this hurts bottom end. as for the charge tube, you can go wild, the air just needs to get from point a to b. shorter and straighter is ideal as its gonna fill/flow better. but whatever works for the chassis. and for exhaust. you want 0 restriction beyond your turbo, so taking the muffler off isnt going to hurt anything.

if you want your more then welcome to call me and i could help out, just shoot me a PM if you want. i have messed with and read enough about them i can get you setup/built and started on tuning.

Unfortunately not at the moment, I am doing a full tear down on my sled. Its all in peices, hopefully will be re assembling in a month. Let me look and see if I can find the break down on the other thread.

See this link will work for you. This is tonysno's sled, but you can see how the line is plumbed from the pipe to the regulator.

Thanks!! That makes total sense..

Thank you.. I will definately be asking you some questions about all of this..:face-icon-small-ton

1 question I do have for you right now is about a pipe setup.. As far as the pipe goes, does it matter what pipe is being used? I am debating using the 440 IQR pipe on my 600 motor, but not sure how well it will work. There is a difference in the 2 pipes, but not sure what it is.. They look identical.. The 440 pipes are real cheap and the 600 pipes are very rare to come by used. Thats my reasoning behind asking this..What do you think about this??

BTW.. upgraded to Premium.. I guess they finally squeezed it out of me.. hahaha

Got everything and started looking it all over.. There are electrical connections and boxes and stuff that I have no idea what they are for.. I ill post some pictures of these tomorrow to see if anyone can help me determine what goes where or if this stuff is really even needed.. Thanks:face-icon-small-ton

These guys will help you get the project up and running.
FWIW.

You will be much happier with a small investment in GARRETT !!!! NO VANES NO FAILED BEARING NO JACKASSES TELLING YOU THE REPAIRS COST THE SAME AS THE SLED DID NEW !!!!

I know I can be harsh but HONEST !:boxing::boxing::boxing:

I was wondering why you weren't replying to your thread.

gus is the knid of guy that knows alot about sled set-ups, so listen close when he speaks. find a 700 pipe for the motor, they are stronger and can take the pressure of the turbo set-up. i used a stock 600 pipe on mine but had it welded at the seams to make it strong enough to hold the pressure. twister or outlaw addict on here are also great guys to ask about turbo set-ups, they helped build mine
