Idea for added cooling on the Pro.

Carry a 50# onion sack and fill it with snow and bungee it too the rear of your sled when you need it. Store it in your tool bag when not in use. Simple, light weight, and always with you. It doubles for a lot of other uses on the trail as well. Don't make this complicated.
Reminds me of a company that was having problems with empty cereal boxes. They spent thousands of dollars trying to figure out a method to catch the empties before they were shipped. Low and behold one of the line personnel(not an engineer mind you) set up a fan on the assembly line and the empties blew off the conveyor. Problem solved.

Brilliant!!

Last couple of years I have been frustrated by my over heating Pro when riding on icy trails. Really sucked some days when we had a 20 mile (or shorter) trail ride to get to the goods. The scratchers just didn't throw enough snow on the coolers. So we would stop and throw snow in the track and pack in on the tunnel but the snow on the tunnel would last about 100ft most times. We tried to figure out a way to hold snow on the tunnel of the Pro last year. Fiddled with some stuff but never really came up with a good idea. Was thinking of some kind of light fold up box you could fill with snow for the trail ride that you could fold down out of the way. Buddy has that sled now, I am sure he is going to have the same issue. It is a more important issue now that I will be waiting for him, lol. Any ideas or anyone come up with something similar?

I added an extra cooler to my pro rmk and it works like a charm. Check out my thread (Adding an extra heat exchanger to a Pro RMK). If you have any questions pm me, I would be happy to answer them.

TRS that is a great idea, best I have seen. Takes a just a few minutes to fill and strap down but isn't costly, heavy or gets in the way the rest of the day. This isn't a HUGE problem or one we have to deal with everyday but most of our best riding takes a trail ride of 5-20 miles to get too. Not riding trails is just not an option a lot of the time.

I would go with better scratchers, no need to haul snow on the back of your tunnel taking the chance of bending your tunnel on a rough trail, and why haul it when it's laying on the ground all around you. plus what's gonna lubricate you hyfax . good scratchers go a long way and are cheep, easy to install and work great.

easiest option imo is when you get back to the lodge for the day before your sled cools off pack the tunnel with a couple of inches of snow till its about ice. Usually if you let it freeze overnight it will last about 10 miles down the trail depending on just how icy said trails are and how quick your moving. The only issue really is that you can't warm your sled up before going in the morning and it also does not help the hyfax any

I like the laundry bag onion bag idea. Going to try that this year. The Pro is tough to keep cool when driving slow with the kids or poking along a goat trail.

Another idea, what abou the old school ski scratchers? Drill a hole in the back of the ski and drop a bolt thru with holes drilled to clip it in the up or down position?
Never woulda thought my stock Pro would run hotter than my M1000 mod. Of course the M didn't have a temp gauge either to star at and I ran the lower rpm ranges a little rich. It ran cooler than my stock m7 does as well.

cooler

So what would actually need to be done to install a bulkhead cooler from a standard RMK 800 into a Pro RMK 800? The cooler itself new is about $350 but what else would you need besides the typical hoses etc.? Also, would it fit? A lot of guys remove the front radiator from the 900 RMK's but I tried it and put mine right back in. They cool way better when on the trails. The bulkhead cooler may do the same thing for the pro I'm thinking.

I've got these. They work GREAT (10° cooler than traditional scratchers) and can go in reverse with them.

So where can person get these or are they just a proto type

X2. Where do those come from. Going to the Denver Snow Show tomorrow. Longer snow flap also appeals to my cheapness!

running hot

So, this running hot condition is on the PRO's only? The standard RMK's already have an additional cooler, right? The PRO's eliminated it for weight reduction?

At what temp does the temp light come on? Just picked up my new pro. Never had any issues with my 11 assault. It always ran 125-135.

temperature light

IS there a temperature "light", or do you just have to monitor the temperature on the digital readout display? On older sleds, if they light came on, it was probably too late.

I was thinking that someone once told me they will go into "limp mode" if it gets too hot. Anyone know if that's right?
