hunting trophys

I've gotten 2 does and 1 turkey with my bow this year but no pictures. My 2 does didn't look anything near as good as the other 2 posted in this thread LOL

Here are the tags we have filled so far. Not huge but not too bad for backyard hunting and made for good freezer filler. Yes, we glassed from the roof, lol.

My first goat/first anything with a bow.

Spent 7 days after some mulies on the mountains, could get 100 yards any day, just couldn't catch a break. Oh well, rifle season we will be back and now elk season is almost upon us!

Nice bull, Bulldog!

So I have to ask you peeps up north, can you guys just drive those atv's anywhere you want to get your animal? Seems like I always see Jim Shocky drive right up to his critters too. Not like that down here in MT.

AKSNOWRIDR, Very nice Griz. I have shot many blacks here in the states and Canada, but never anything like that. Love the color. Any idea how it works with military personnel in ALaska? Have a kid in the Air Force who is scheduled to be stationed in Alaska. I see a trip or..... 10 to see him there. Really would like a huge moose and Griz.

You are considered a non-resident for the first year, so most military personnel don't big game hunt the first season, they do research and learn from others. Everyone needs a good pack mule. Check out Alaska Outdoor Journal and Outdoors Directory (both are dot.coms) for tons of info.

for the most part you can ride right up to them after they are down, not allowed to enter any water that holds fish that spawn, not allowed to tear up the countryside....

Thanks cannon, pretty much what Morsno(allen) said, plus if born after what 86-87 must have a hunters training course...but after 1 yr...watch out fun stuff hunting/fishing wise......

Thanks

You may want to explain the driving right up to them part. Like what it takes to get there and how far from civilization you normally are to find monsters. Pics of a "Alaskan Hunting Buggy" stuck in the muskeg 50 miles in for instance. :loco:

Not that great of a season for me. I called in a 5x5 raghorn bull elk on opening day and my noob buddy shot him from 20 yards. Then my job started, hope he learned how to do it by watching.

As for my season we got into elk everyday until muzzy started (yes, Colorado smacks muzzy right into archery, safe huh?) and then nothing until the last two days. There were WAAAAAAAAAAAAY TOO MANY people in the woods. I really hate non-resident hunters, no offense but most are idiots who have no place in the woods. The weather was way too hot. Go figure the day after season closed the temps dropped 20° and it started raining/snowing. The rut wasn't in full swing but it is now, just in time for 1st Rifle Elk. Honestly, Colorado has things so messed up I'm surprised anyone can fill a tag.

Scott, hunting bear is easy. Most states allowing the use of bait. In Colorado, successful bear hunter generally sit on gut piles from one of their previously killed deer or elk tags. Stalking them is hard because they move so much trying to find food.

And that is one very nice bull you tagged. My screen may be playing tricks tho. Is it really an 8x6? That's freaking amazing. And he has some heavy mass too. Congrats!

Montana bear hunting is spot and stalk only...no bait or dogs. I have been lucky enough to get a couple. One was completely happenstance and the other I was actually hunting for in the spring. I hear ya on the out of state hunters and people in the woods. I actually have a few buddies from out of state that hunt with me, but only me. Montana is in a spot now where they are actually advertising for people to come out and shoot elk...even though our herds are not in the greatest of shape. I finally bit the bullet last year and went in on a lease with a few of my friends. My public land spots are in bad shape because of low elk numbers and drought, so it kind of forced my hand. There is no way we would have been able to afford it normally, but the ranch we lease is a friend of ours. They used to have it in the Block Management program, which basically took private land and made it public. That turned into a giant sh%t show and people were out of control on it. The landowners eventually gave up on it and we offered to help them out. Of course, now we seem to be having a problem with some large canines on the property we lease, so it is far from a sure thing. The one thing that is nice is that when you go you know you will only be seeing peeps you know, and they know how to hunt the place so they don't screw everything up. Been an okay archery season, saw lots of small bulls and let them walk. We are semi managing it for the chance of maybe seeing some bigger bulls on it one day, but this year has been tough. We also have deer, antelope, and bear, but we are trying to let a few of those live and get bigger. It will be interesting to see what happens in the near future...rifle season could be a doozy.
