How much do you spend a year sleddin?

Unless a person was single or seriously in debt It would be hard to make ends meet on a 50K salary spending 11K on snowmobiling. Our family income is around 50K for a family of 4 and we live mostly paycheck to paycheck. 11K is more than I spend on my morgage and I have no vehicle payments since all my vehicles and toys are over 10 years old. I spend approx. 1500 per year on snowmobiling. I finance part of that cost by cutting down on meals while working saving the extra perdium I receive while working away from home. I buy a cheap late 90's model sled for the kids to ride each year riding it 1 season and parting it out the next doubling my money. Drive between 50 and 100 miles to ride. Usually park my sleds at the work cabin so I do not trailer often.

Truck & ins: $250 (I would have owned the truck anyway payed $2200)
Trailer: $25 (Homebuilt for $150)
Fuel: $400
Fixes and Mods: $275
Gear: $150 (Bought with birthday money)
Food: $120
Lodging: $0 (usually day trips or occationally stay an extra day at work cabin instead of driving back home.)
Booze: $75
Sled & Ins: $215 (Upgaded 2 years ago for $250 after selling old sled I rode for 8 years)

Not going to sit down and figure it out. Might end up getting pissed.

But I spend less than most because I'm not an alcoholic and I live 15 minutes away from the riding area.

About 50 rides a year 25 miles from the house, maybe one or two non-res. rides plus new sled every three years = $13,000/year. The reality is it's ridiculously expensive, but the cost actually doesn't bother me a bit, just bothers my wife. The more she bitches about it the more I have to get away to escape the bitching.

forever hooked

If I did add it up, I would have to quit, because there is no way I could justify the cost. The problem with me is, I'm all in, all the time. This sport costs more then being hooked on drugs! Oh but what a ride, wouldn't change a thing. I am addicted, to sledding that is.:face-icon-small-hap

This thread is hilarious. I would say I'll be in the 20k range this year. And I'm totally ok with that. I'm single, I live in a single-wide trailer house that I RENT, my newest vehicle is a 1995 Powerstroke, and I eat alot of Ramen noodles. Just so I can spend the rest of my money on snowmobiles!!

Everyone needs to have a hobby, it just depends where you decide to spend your money. Guys who sit at home doing their hobbies also spend as much as us sledders. Wood workers spend money on table saws, sanders, planers, drills, clamps, blades, bits, glue, wood, etc. Computer junkies need massive computers, monitors, back up hard drives, software, etc, that cost as much as a sled. Heck, when I get old I don't want to be the guy who remembers the good old days when he sat around enjoying watching Jello harden. Every hobby has a cost, I work hard and I'm happy with where I spend my money.

But I have four hobbies for the various seasons and they're all gasoline consuming money pits. For sledding, I've spent over $20k in the past month and haven't even seen a flake yet, lol.

Sledding for us is the cheap part of the year. The summer is way more expensive. Boats jet skis and going camping costs alot more.

I tis the opposite. I am not married, my woman has a great job so does not not money from me and my rule is zero debt for cars, toy, ect. If I don't have the cash I don't buy it. You would be surprised how far you can stretch a buck if you want to. This is all I do, my only serious hobby. spend money on much else.

U made it sound like your entire family income was 50g a year. If that is just yours then I guess its not that bad.

But chit 1500$ booze? Jesus! Do you drink top shelf stuff or what?? Our college just had our "homecoming" weekend and I dropped 50$ on a ton of booze, and I still have a little bit left over.

My drag racing expenses dwarf my snowmobile spending. Its like a drug addiction.

20 K + last year 2K so far this year. 1200 update coming up on the turbo 3 barrels of race gas on the way, 3 or 4 trips planned . with fuel it costs 200.00 a day to ride Locally

Its fawking out of hand ! if I had more to spend I would

I love every minute of it !

Just found out that it is going to cost even more, I have a cracked cylinder on the Pro I just pulled down to put in new pistons.

If I was 25 and single I too would be living in a trailer eating ramen noodles (with wild game from my hunting trips). I could winterize the trailer and move into the work cabin in the hills and ride from my door step. I might even be able to find the time and money to visit some other mountains (if I could find someone off on weekdays instead of weekends).

Jesus! You too?????? XC has the EXACT same problem on his PRO with less than 1000 miles on it.

I know one person who doesn't have a tweaked PRO right now. And that is Mule. But to be fair, he just bought it.

PRo

Have a friend who thought his sled was tip top. Pulled it apart and found a cracked cylinder not sure what the deal was.

This year is astronomical for me, 2 sleds one is a mod in progress, bought a new to me truck and a sled deck, lots of traveling and riding 3-4 days a week, I will easily be well over 30k, but all spring summer and fall I pull in a lot of 100 hr work weeks with next to nothing for days off, all my overtime is double pay so the money adds up quick,

I dont save my reciepts. I dont want to know how much I spend. I do know that my wife thinks its way to much. But its no different that what I spend on my Harley in the summer. Shes just gotta get used to it.

Too much to post online. It would be a lot less but I am paying for my boys sledding too. I am old, completely out of debt and I don't want to die with a penny to my name, lol. Money is there to be used but I have a family so I can't be completely irresponsible either.
