How many states have road tax built into the fuel price?

And of those state that do have it like Oregon, how many of the state snowmobile organizations get any money from those road taxes? If the state associations are not getting the money is there anyway to get fuel with out paying the road tax for the toys?

MN does. And yes OHV currently are taxed for "road" use. But the state puts that money back into a fund for sleds, quads, etc basically vehicles that don't use the roads(broken between groups based on percentages of users)...of course a group known as MRR tried to get our money taken away...do a search or check in the MN threads.

SD does.

For every licensed sled, the road tax for 100 gallons of gas is diverted to the trail fund.

I would think most states if not all of them have some tax for roads built into the gas price. If they didn't I'm not sure you would want to travel on the roads!

In MN all gas except off highway diesel is taxed. Portions of that tax go to everything under the sun and when it comes to stuff related to us it's things such as sled trails/equipment, atv stuff, boat landings and on and on. MRR is a nasty organization that see's all this money going to something productive but it's not in their agenda so they must try and stop it. So far so good with it not getting anywhere because if it did, you can pretty much be sure it will almost be the death of snowmobiling in MN. It's really that much money that we are talking about. Most clubs would loose pretty much all the money they get which of course would mean no trails, no sled sales, and no tourism etc. Pretty bad no matter what way you look at it.

here in BC if you go to the pump you pay the road tax but if you go anywhere that sells boat gas the tax is knocked off.

should be that way for all off road toys, such as sleds/boats/lawnmowers, you get the drift. Obviously the problem is people would definatly abuse it and they really dont have anyway to enforce it.

cali is like 19cents for gas and 24 or 25cents per gallon of diesel.

All states have road taxes on the fuel. Some states like Wi. sell non taxed fuel for agriculture but still chage for rec. use.
I'm in the trucking business and what I see as the biggest ripoff is the federal highway use tax. A flat fee of a little over $600 a year per truck. The money goes everywhere except to the highways! Most of it goes into railroad subsidies, some goes to bike paths and boat landings, and about 5% gets to the highway administration fund!

Thank my former MN rep James Oberstar...idiot passed a bill stating airports could use fed transit money to build hangers for people to store bikes at airports...funny that one got built in his hometown airport, and he likes to bicycle...in fact I doubt much anyone else uses it.

Idaho taxes gas by the gallon, not as a percentage of the sale. There is also a state OHV fund that is supported by part of the state gas tax though I don't know the level. It goes through the state parks and rec, not directly to the state snowmobile association.

umm up here boat gas is also "Marked" gas , basicly dyed premium. if you get caught with it in your car/truck big fine. just like farm fuel, i should have explained that better in my first post. and yes just last summer the BC government made it leagal to run marked fuel in any off highway vehicle, quad/dirt bike/sled/lawnmower etc.

We have dyed diesel but not gas. Checked with my local supplier and they said if you want to fill out some fairly extensive paperwork I can be exempt on taxes for pumpgas. I dont burn enough gasoline to make it worth while.

The dyed offroad gas makes sense though! even though I know LOTS of people who run off road diesel in their trucks on the road, its a pretty hefty fine!!

Hefty is right, its a federal offense to get caught running red and they charge you for the capacity of the rig(per gallon) But i think they put a cap on maxing the max fine 10 grand. But I'm not sure if they bummped it up yet
