How do these guys afford sledding?!?

I think the original post was talking about the guys in their early twenties. Someone on this thread hit it right on the head. "times have changed". My grandparents made a darn good livin' but the only thing you financed was a home. Im almost 40 and have been shoeing horses for over twenty years and make a darn good living but it took years to get there. Ive financed trucks and homes. Thats it. I made enough in my twenties to afford a pymt on a toy but it just didnt seem right to me.Building a nest egg seemed more important. I ride with guys in their earky twenties that have all the toys, truck and the home. Its the new norm to finance everything. Albeit there are exceptions to some but alot of them are one missed paycheck from a financial train wreck. I enjoy not having that trouble

Some of us who are part of the younger generation, just some of us, have gone out in the world and work just as hard as our elders. We have nice things, arent financed to the max, and still sit in a comfortable financial position. It just amazing how far hard work and determination will take you.

Do you realize that there are people that do make enough money to buy all these nice things without a bunch of loans? Even in their early twenties? And still have enough for the "nest egg"?

Just saying there are plenty of jobs out there paying WELL over 100k. At least there is in my area. Maybe not everywhere. And that's at 45-50 hours a week.
Not a big deal to buy a sled with cash then.
I realize the average wage can't afford all that crap without a bank. But some people have a better than average job.

I hear ya! Sounds like these old cranky guys on here can't imagine some of us young guys actually working for our money! See somebody else with a nicer truck then theirs so that must mean they didn't earn it huh?

Spend play spend play spend play spend play, die at 85 with a big smile!

Save work save work save work save work, die at 85 with a big wallet!

Hmmm?? you only live once!!! can't take it with, can't do at 70 what you could at 25!

Bull not always true

The easiest way to explain it is, most of them and I said most are in debt so far up to their butts they will not see daylight for a long time. Nobody at 21 makes enough money per year to pay cash for a 60k truck a 12k sled a 10k enclosed trlr and that is the winter stuff. These kids also have dirt bikes boats 4 wheelers and what not. Most of this stuff gets traded in as the seasons change, for a loss. When I was 20 I borrowed money for a washer and dryer because I was tired of going to the laundramat. Priorities are different these days.

I hate to say i work in the underground mining industry and kids just out of high school are making 100-200 k everywhere in mills, mining and the union trades

DIDO Fordguy....I find I appreciate things way more after I have saved for it and have to part with the cash. Work hard, play harder and spend wisely. Believe it or not, a little bit if research will save you tens of thousands over your lifetime.

I just hate watching the banks, credit card companies and loan officers make interest on my money...burns my azz !!! I give enough of it away to the government as it is.

One of the things I laugh most at are the guys that spend big dollars on tools for their personal use. Dont get me wrong, to each their own, but I havent paid full price for a tool in my life. Always buy on sale and they all have lifetime warranty....no need to have a million dollars worth of Snap On laying around !!! Buy a tool or two every payday...dont take long to accumulate everything you need, then put the savings in your gas tank !!!

being a loan officer i take offense to this post. how in the heck can it burn your a!! that you have to pay interest if you take out a loan? do you think we should just give you money for free? noone is putting a gun to your head to finance a pickup. plus you arent giving your money to the loan officer, we are just doing a job. also since you seem to think that banks are so evil and charge interest on loans, maybe we shouldnt pay you any interest on your savings accounts or CDs?

on another note, while i am a huge believer in savings adequately for retirement, you only live once and you could leave this earth any day. you have to do the things you enjoy doing while you can.

I don't know what banks you are talking about, but CD rates these days are a joke. 1-2%. And we know the stock market is up. So, um, yeah. Banks burn the average guy. Perhaps if they weren't so busy financing stadiums and other garbage with our money we would be back to making something worth sneezing at with a bank....

And back to post topic. The repo trade is alive and well. In fact, very very alive and well. Most common repo? Harley. Sad, but the percentage of people in this country that actually live WITHIN their income was last stated to be something like 20-25%. Ouch.

Seems I offended you....hmmmmm.

Its my azz it can burn whenever it wants.

Interest on savings is a joke....you may as well stuff it in your closet. At least if the electronic world crashes you will still have some good old cash sittin around.

Give me free money.....hell I dont need your money....but there sure is a lot of people on the street that could use just a little bit of those MULTIMILLIONS you make every quarter.!!

Lots of big $$$$ in trades right now.
Lots of ovrtime $$$$$$.
Just live within your means so when the overtime $$$$$ are gone your not left with big debts collecting interest.

But if we all did that.....then you wouldnt make any money, and we dont what that to happen.

I do agree with your last paragraph though.......work hard, take care of the family....put some away for college and retirement......the rest of it, well

BURN BABY BURN :face-icon-small-hap:face-icon-small-hap:face-icon-small-hap

And we will have a lot of fun doing it.....INTEREST FREE !!!

For the most part I am sure you are 100% correct... mining and other industries do pay pretty good from what I have read. I just wish that the union I am a member of got me anywhere close to 100K a year... That would be sweet:face-icon-small-sad

well i guess my perspective is slightly different as i work for a VERY small town bank in the rural midwest. we arent making millions and we go out of our way to help people in the community yes i hate the big banks too! :)

i see things first hand. people that shouldnt be buying things keep trying to overextend themselves. they keep digging themselves into a hole, and when they are just starting to get out of it, they go buy something else they cant afford and the cycle repeats itself. ironically enough with our economy being so good where i am, it is more often than not the younger folks who have the better jobs and less risky customers.

This is one of the stupidest things I have read on snowest.

Congratulations on that.

I dont think anyone on here would disagree that there are some young guys out there workin' damn hard to afford some nice things. But unfortunately the young generation sometimes gets lumped into the same no work ethic, pants around their ***, entitlement generation and that is not true. I know plenty of people my age that are just as stupid with their finances as some younger folks. I just think it has gotten a lil' bit worse as time goes by. I think my grandparents spent differently because they saw not only the good times but the bad as well. Ask some of the guys who worked at the lucky friday mine that were making bank and now all of the sudden the faucet got turned off. I think some of the older miners were a lil' better prepared because they had seen silver prices go up and down and mines close. The guys in their twenties trust me, you will shake your head sometimes at the generation coming behind you

haha my my this thread hasn't gone the direction I was expecting at all but oh well its still plenty amusing :)

I was more looking for real life examples of occupations and jobs that people here have that allow them to live a lifestyle like this! Cuz while I am pretty locked in on what I want to do when I'm older I'm always on the lookout for other options and learning new things!
