How 'bout them snowies?

I shoveled out about 5 inches of fresh this morning. The forecast is calling for another few inches today, but the best news: the wind isn't blowing!! It's supposed to be relatively calm through the weekend. I haven't heard any reports from up top yet but there's generally 2-3 times as much snow as we get in town. Happy riding!

forecast said 5-10 inches. I have every bit of 5 at the house and probably 10 on the hill. But the good news is the sun is coming out as i type. Going up tomorrow. In the thunderstruck words, it should be an epic day.

Hello all of our neighbors to the North. Where is the best place to stay up there. My husband and I are changing our plans about going to Grand Lake, CO next weekend and coming up to the snowies for the first time. So if you guys would be so kind and telling us the best places to stay and have some drinks I would greatly appreciate it.

albanycabins.com is a nice cabin away from the albany lodge noise but close enough to crawl home if ya need to.

In Albany:
Albany Lodge - 307-745-5782 Rooms, Food, Drinks and Fuel
In Centennial:
Old Corral Hotel and Steak House 307-745-5918 Rooms and Food
Mountain View Hotel 888-400-9953 Rooms
On the Mountain:
Mountain Meadow Cabins
Snowy Mountain Lodge 307-742-7669 Cabins

In Centennial there are 2 places to eat and drink, The Bear Tree and the Friendly Store. Everything is within walking distance in town. I hope the numbers are correct. Its been awhile since I'd called them.

Aspencreek, we also have a small motel (only 8 rooms) at the Friendly Store, and a bar right on site. We serve only breakfast and lunch in our cafe, but it's nearly all made from scratch. Just a warning though - if you're planning on the weekend of the 22nd-23rd you will have a hard time finding lodging here in Centennial. That is the weekend of the (ski) poker run. I know we are booked as of now, and last I heard everyone else is as well. Still doesn't hurt to call around in case there's a cancellation. Our number is 307-742-6033. Oh, and I just learned that our bar number is not listed anywhere, so if anyone is calling after store hours you need to call 307-745-8303.

Went up there today with Ike, AKA Trinitypowder. I think we could have worn tank tops and been overdressed.....talk about warm. Definitely felt spring in the air, hopefully that's not the case....

Snow was pretty good, better on the back side. Looks to be about 10-12" fresh, but the warmth was really setting it up. Snow on the front side by Lake Marie was pretty well tracked for the common paths, but plenty of fresh if you do a little searching. Only got my Nytro stuck once, but I'm sure if I'd tried it would have been more frequent.

Ike's a heck of a rider. We had a blast and put on about 52 miles, mostly off trail boonin'. Need more snow if the temps are going to stay 36+.

Holy crap it was warm this morning, hero snow all day long, got to widow maker and figured whats the point, all pounded down, I could have made it up on the old phaser one of the guys with us kid was riding J/K. Anyone hit that drift on the side of the hill south of the widow maker, that thing shot you straight up in the air about twenty feet, it was awesome!!! The guys below us said it was pretty awesome to watch!!! Will be up tomorrow, who else is going? And who has that enclosed trailer that says budweiser on the back "I piss Excellence" with the two taps on the side and Nebraska plates, they are up there every weekend. Here's a couple pics of us riding.

Rode saturday. It started snowing dinner plate size snow flakes around 11. Kept it up all afternoon and half the night. Supplicant you were right. Sunday was the day to ride.
We hit 8-12 inches of fresh snow. Every where we went it was awsome.

Saw Anti-Hero going straight beside this little tree. I decided to cut a nice tight carve around the little tree. Imagine my suprise when as I came around and saw Anti-Hero sitting there. Seems there was a little bush by the little tree and his sled went down fast. So I just layed it over to keep from hitting him. The other riders that were there thought it was hilarious.

We rode Saturday & Sunday as well. We got 6-8 inches of snow while we were up there, on top of what was already there (at least that is what was we shoveled yesterday in an area that was cleared on Saturday morning).

Good times in all of the meadows, some of our usual spots had tracks, but that is to be expected on a holiday weekend. Still managed to hit areas that were untouched which was good too.

People riding today should have a great time.
