How are the plastic chain case covers working

Have heard some story's of these covers breaking when hitting rocks- stumps. Any truth to this??? Hope this is just rumors.

I would think breaking is better than distorting and bending the sidepanel as the aluminum one did . Crumple zone right? You could run without the cover really. So if one breaks you still ride. Plastic cover is way cheaper too.

Agreed, I hit mine last year and it crumpled the Lh
Sidepanel and wiped a couple bearings out. I would have been much happier with a broken plastic cover.

At least they are cheap at $40 to replace. You could buy almost 6 of them for 1 of the aluminum ones TS sold last year.

I heard they wont be on the 2016 kits. Material changed not holding up.

Nope. Rumor.

We had several key goals with the 2015 chain case cover. Here are a few:
-Make the replacement cost affordable (like we did taking the skag cost from $100 to just $45) New covers are only $40. That's less than my weekly lunch money. You can buy 3 replacement covers for less than the price of a cover guard; and 4.25 replacements for the price of last year's cover.

-Increase the structural integrity of the side panel. The cover, the new frame, the housings, and more add the stiffness we wanted in the new kits.

-Shrink the size of the cover so heels have more clearance, and it's less susceptible to hitting things; and make it more snow-dynamic.

In the end, our goal is to make this sport more affordable for everyone. We could have very easily charged the same for covers as last year, and padded profits on this and many other items- like the bearing update kits. We will continue this same path in the future, and look for more ways to make our sport more affordable.

Probably a good opportunity for an after market cover, maybe some with fab shop will weld up alum ones if the hard plastic is explosion prone.

They make a aluminum one. Came on proto's and the SX. I believe the early plastics were a different formula (suspected). More explosion proof lol

Carbon Fiber Chain Case Protector 2015/ST

We have heard riders having the same issues with the plastic chain case covers. That is why we are making a carbon fiber chain case cover protector for the 2015 ST's. The carbon fiber piece will protect the bottom half of the plastic chain case cover. The price will be in the $150.00 range. We also make aluminum chain case covers for previous ST models. Contact Tony at orders@jtpanels.com.

We make a Chain Case Impact Protector .....Aluminum light weight impact protector with angled front to deflect objects and debris away from the face of the chain case cover.

We have up to 2014 in two different styles and we have have the new 2015.
Its on our Web. www.docperformance.ca

I did but could someone please get back to me.

Brett I am sorry but I call bs. I have seen older models take hits and other than a small gash I have never had to replace a cover. They were made to hold up. Did you deduct the 260 dollar savings from the price of my new kit. Just giving you crap but the older covers are better. The proto types had aluminum.why the change. My cover flexes with the side panel. It's not more stable, just look at the bottom. And then the smaller drivers:der:
