How are the plastic chain case covers working

take cover

I found running with no cover is good, could be hard on Klims if you have a flailing rider. The more snow you run through your chain case the longer the chain life. So after making several versions of chain covers I found a chain guard, not cover works the best. I have enough guard to keep pants out and snow in. Two years of riding almost no chain stretch.

So the old saying SPEED KILLS............not so

HEAT KILLS

Hit something today with my 14 st. Don't know when or what I hit. Cover isn't bent too bad but the side plate is toast, bearing is junk don't know about the chain or sprockets yet will look at it in the morning. I'm in west right now and hoping to find a new side panel somewhere reasonably close. Anyone know if someone in Bozeman would have one.

So I got my new cover installed (thanks Garry!) and I noticed the sprocket bolt and the chain had taken a little hit and had some rock rash. I decided to test the impact resistance on my broken cover by hitting it with a hammer. I tried several different places including on the rounded part near the top (simulating hitting something on the leading edge at the bottom). I was pretty disappointed with the results. It crushed in with less force than I would use hammering a framing nail. on the plus side, it looks like the rest of the kit is undamaged. I like the plastic cover, I just wish it was made from a more impact resistant plastic, similar to my skidplate.

call iceage performance south of bozeman (406) 763-0365 probably your best bet. I bet you can straighten the sideplate and just replace the bearing. they generally have some stuff on hand. maybe a sideplate who knows.
