Horrer stories

Most of last year I rode a 09 M8 SP 153 and all I did was add gas an oil. I decided to modify it by replacing it with a 2010 HCR!

After depreciation on the 09 and the extra cost of the OH-10 (that's what I'm calling them now) it will cost me $4K but I think it will be worth it!! LOL!

I Have An 05 M7 With SLP Twins & My Own Air Box & It Took A Little Bitt To Dial In But I Even Let My Wife & Boys Ride It Runs Like A Raped Ape No Troubles!!!!!!!! I Also Have A 07 M1000 With A SLP Single Kit That I Ran For
About a Year & A Half With A BD Box & It Ripped Till AC Flashed It !!!! Now I Have The 09 Flash & It Rips Again !!! In Late Spring I Put A Set Of CPC Twins On It And It Even Runs Harder Than The SLP Single Ive Got The NOS Capable Box On Both With A button To Add Fuel Only & It Only Took A Couple RidesTo Get Them Dialed In Now I Never Touch Them Good Luck... If You Know How To Wrench A Little Its Easy To Do!!!!

How long did that take you to type???

....Would my $$ be better spent on a Powerclaw. Challenger currently and I can only afford one (pipe setup or Powerclaw)...

This would be my first mod for sure on an 08 or older. Huge difference. And like BigHoe said, just sell your challenger and you might do it for cheap. Last year I sold my Challenger for $400 and bought a new PC for $525, so all in all a cheap upgrade.

2008/09 was my season in h*ll.

Put an aftermarket bumper kit on my 07 M8, cracked tunnel lifting the sled. Little did I know it was then leaking antifreeze .. and that the temp sensor does not register temps when not wet. Burned it down ...

So .. I made a list after putting out the fire (not really, no fire). Rear tunnel, new rear bumper kit (different mfg'r), coolant heat exchanger tube, about 100 rivets, pneumatic rivet gun, complete top end rebuild, new deto sensor, Koso temp gage.

About the same time I came to the realization that the Joe Blow ceramic coating I had put on my stock pipe wasn't working and melted anything within 10 ft.

Decided on a SLP replacement pipe. So .... since I have head and port already ... BD box, EGT, Timbersled intake, venting, re-clutching.

Put on a PowerClaw track. When putting the skid back in, the rear shock linkage rotated to the bottom of the shaft without me noticing (if you've pulled an 07 skid, you'll know what I mean). Went on the first ride .. hummm, new track sure does vibrate a lot in deep snow. Bent shock, trashed track in a heartbeat.

Karma for 18 yrs of mostly trouble free mods on countless sleds.

Last weekend I did the oil elimination.

Like an addict, can't help myself. I'll never learn .. (until I get turbo'd on my next sled) ;)

mod

well a few yrs back I had the bikeman pipe mod v force y pipe and bmp can.bike man told me the 06 crossfire was fat needed no fuel box.well about 20mi latter I was putting in a new top end and ordering a boon docker.went to junk yard picked up a stock pipe till boon docker got to the house.kept other mods with stock pipe ran fine .

Thanks to all that have replied to this thread. I'll write it once instead of click "thanks" 20+ times:eek: With that my story just gets deeper. I hope your not board.
If I take off the Challenger for the Powerclaw, I'm going to switch (give) it to my Dad (05 M7 153) and get rid of his worn out Attack 20. Maybe worth $50.

What would happen if I buy the track and ran EGT's and a fuel box on the stock setup until I figure it out and save some more cash for the pipe setup?

Stupid Plan? Okay Plan? Good Plan?

Thanks again

Hope I didn't scare anyone off doing mods. Most of the problems I had last season were caused by me, except the bumper mod of course (poor product).

Some of the most sound advice I've seen on here in a while.

I have done the stuff in my signature. It took me three rides at the start of the season to get the BD numbers spot-on , then never touched it again. Ran like a top wheher we were riding here or over in McCall. Just took a little patience is all. No horror stories here. Geared down to 56/64 now so am anxious th see the benefit of that.

I am sure that there are times when parts are junk, but I think 99% of the time it all boils down to the kind of guy you are:

If you just want to some parts on your sled quick and go, then you should ride stock. You are the guy scratching your head as to why it won't just run like the salesman said.

If you take the time and effort to research what you are doing, learn how to adjust, and install things well, I think you will be fine.

I see a lot half assed installs using crimp connectors, etc. These are the guys that are scratching thier head as to why things don't run and flaming different brands at the bar. You ask a few troubleshooting questions they look at you like a deer in the headlights.

My advice is pick a major mod like porting or pipes and stay away from the piece meal approach.

My best advice is: If you can't wrench well yourself, don't mod....

I love the mechancally challanged that can't tune with a box. Fun blowing by them with 2 or 3 hundred less CC's :D Got some Jaws III high altitude for sale if you want to wake up your stock 700 M. 350 bucks. Great shape! Great manners, but do put out some.....heat.

I ride with guys with modded sleds mine is stock. I never get on that many miles because their always adjusting or breaking down. Plus side I always get lots of breaks riding with them! My 2010 M8 with 160 hp is plenty to get me into trouble.

My sled may be the exception to the rule. 08 M1k, SLP pipe, CPC intake, Boonie box. Stock gearing, stock 2ndary, 36deg, orange, shift assist. CPC primary weights 72.5g, Gold/sumthin CPC primary spring (high finish rate 320# or something)
About 900mi on the sled, po put the mods on the sled before it ever hit the snow. It runs great. On 2nd belt, never blown one (knock on wood). I'm not convinced I'm getting the absolute most out of the combo I have, but it's faster than a stock 07 M1k. Pulls hard all the time. Seems to be lacking a little bit of power though(expected more, although it pulled alot harder than my twin piped Pol 800, maybe jsut getting used to the power now..LOL).
Overall, good setup so far, no horror stories.

Wow I thought this thread was long gone:eek: Thanks to everyone that replied. So I decided to go with the PC & VE tunnel mod. But I'm saving up some $$$ for the slp package. Cause I want both:D:beer;

Same exact story here, BMP products are junk, their shipping is slow, and their customer service is non-existent.
