HMK Backpack?

Yeah I think they work really well with lots of storage, ability to accept hydration pack, very tough and light weight. The only drawback IMO is that the way the backpack holds your shovel handle and probe. It is just two elastic straps with velcro and I have to keep a very close eye on it. Especially when riding through tight trees. I now store my probe inside the pack and you could probably store a handle in there except mine is extendable and just a little too long. I just have to sit and figure out a way to help secure it on the outside. Other than that it is great

If you are looking at buying one.. I have one brand spank'n new.. doesnt fit me right.. to big of shoulders.. org/blk.. pm me

lok in the avalance and survival section theres a couple threads on backpacks and how much stuff ppl pack in them, might give you an idea of what you want, i use a camel back i got from cabelas and modifyed it a bit, and it hold everything i need and was 50 or more bones cheaper then most others

i have one and love it. best backpack i have had yet with the exception of the probe and shovel handle attachment. havent lost anything yet but i keep a pretty good eye on it

I had one and really liked it. Yes it does hold a lot, but I now own a BCA Stash and I feel it is more comfortable although I don't think holds as much.

i like mine also, switched from a dakine heli pro. I bought the black diamond shovel that has the handle built right into the blade. Fits in there great. I like all the small pockets for organizing stuff and the two small pockets on the waist belt are handy.
I keep goggles, gloves, shovel, probe, survival crap in mine and it rides good and is for the most part not noticable

i love mine, after 1 season it had a little interior tear and i called up HMK and they replaced it with a brand new no questions asked, haven't had any problems since.

I like mine very well. Lots of storage room and very comfortable. Watch you shovel though, i lost my handle this year due to a tree brach and didn't even realize it until later that day, but still a great pack.

I was just wondering how your hmk backpacks work. How much stuff do they hold, what do you put in yours. Is it worth the money.

Assuming an ABS pack is not in the cards, the HMK looks like a nice pack. I would also suggest checking out a Dakine Helipro. I loved mine before I went ABS..jmho

I have one also it is a great pack. Very comfortable and about the right size. I also have issues with the shovel handle holder as I love tree riding. I solved that issue for now though. I tied a short length of parachute cord on the shovel handle and tie a loop on the other end. I slip the loop over the strap/buckle before I latch the pack shut. That way WHEN I do knock the handle off, I don't lose it, it just thumps me af ew times til I stop and put it back. Still quick and easy to get to, just have to pop the one buckle loose and slip the rope off.

Great guys (and gals) I really appreciate all the feed back. I guess now I will have to go out and buy one because now I am convinced, and i will do something about the shovel handle because I am not going to lose mine.

Thanks guys

That's a GREAT idea! I lost a probe off of my HMK last year, riding through the trees. Didn't feel it or notice it until way later. I always wonder if I will lose another or the shovel handle.

Thanks!

Works great. Don't tie it around the metal tube though. If your shovel handle does not have a small hole in it, drill a hole in the plastic handle itself so it is tied off securely. Can't lose it that way.

I have a HMK pack also and love it, lots of storage, it is a toss up between the HMK and True Adventure Gear backpacks. I broke my bottom buckle on mine and i think i might see if i can get another one through HMK.

I used to ride with the true north pack and it was an excellent product. Now I have an HMK pack and it was a slightly different style but I'm super happy with the entire system. The HMK doesn't blouse out as much so your gear is more stacked along the entire opening as opposed to dropping to the lowest point in the bag and piling on. Feel and wear wise they are about the same. Great quality and the system of shovel probe with the pack is great. I really like the internal saw in the shovel.

HMK is a great, grass roots, home brewed, Oregon SLED COMPANY. Some of the others are ski industry related companies and may be putting your profit dollars to work against our right to ride. Great products from great sled junkies and that should go along way in helping you with your purchasing decision.

great pack, Yesterday riding through the trees branch caught pack and ripped strap apart. My dakine held up to this for years. I emailed HMK and see if they got a fix or can reinforce this area. Theres not alot of stitching in this area
