me personally, would have him bring me the sled..I would pull it down with him standing there..then show him why it burned down(cold seize, nos on too much compression or trail overheat) offer to buy 1 piston(and a hone if that fixes the cylinder)then send him on his way...with an express..you screw it up again..its your headache...

that would be above and beyond the call of duty, but may keep the newb into the sport, which could be good or bad.

That is exactly what is going to happen. He is comeing back to my house (in springville from logan) on saturday. I told him not to touch it, I will pull it down with him waiting and watching. clean out the cylinder (if possible) throw the piston in and send him on his way. Then block his number in my phone. Ok maybe I wont actully block his number but if this continues I will.

According to your signature, you still own the sled. Maybe that is the problem. J/K

Good Luck:face-icon-small-win

That's a really stand up thing to do. Good Karma to you this season.

rix,
far more generous than most folks !!

my bro had this exact same thing happen, right down to the '04 king -
long story short, the a-hole (the guy that bought it, not my bro) sued my bro about it.
judge's ruling - like most everyone else on here = sold is sold, as-is.

then, walking out of courtroom after, the jackoff has the balls to admit he cold siezed it. his explaination - "well, i had to try and get something out of it"

duner and built --- GOOD laughs !!!

Yup, legally the sale is final and you're free from any obligation. Bill of sale with 'sale is final' is something that I like to practice.

My bro-in-law sold his cumins dodge to a dude. The next day the tranny blew. The WIFE called cussing and swearing saying we want our money back, come pick up your truck, you sold us a pos. Legally, he didn't have to do anything, but morally he did give them some cash to help with the repairs. Rather than laughing in the peoples face I believe he did the right thing and went above and beyond what he had to do.

I think you're doing to right thing by helping the dude out a bit. After you help him out, make it perfectly clear to 'not be calling me anymore about this sled'. Good on ya...

Well, here is the latest. The new owner was supposed to be coming to my house tomorrow (saturday) with the sled so we could pull the motor down together and check it out. I offered to do the labor and replace the piston if he would bring the sled so I could see why it blew. Got a call from him this afternoon, he isnt going to make it. decided he would just do it him self and replace both pistons with seizecos (weiscos). He also wanted to know if I would "help" out with the costs if it needs more than just a piston. I said I might be willing to do that if and only if he would email me high quality pics of the piston and cylinder when he got it apart. If it is a cold seize he is on his own.

You've been really stand up, if your willing to watch the motor come apart and he won't make the drive I'd say he's SOL. Good luck.

Sold as is, I tell everyone that sold is sold then and there I dont offer any warranty. I dont lie about whats happened to it and if it blows its just the luck of the draw. That is in fact why I stopped buying used toys after the first one I bought. Decent bike but tore to crap and found out everything was rusted solid and the valves and piston were shot. Got it running decent and sold it and then started buying new so I knew what was worn out "NOTHING". Now I only buy very lightly used or brand new stuff.

If anyone buys a mod sled they know what they are getting into, if they were made to run that hard they would from the factory, at some point something got to give. BUT I agree with the others on here, its most likely a cold seize that close to the rig.

Did you bleed the cooling system properly after replacing the head?

I'm just curious as a friend of mine bought a sled last winter with a fresh rebuild and it burnt up in the first mile on the first ride due to improper bleeding.

Yeah, and I have 120 miles on the sled with the head on it this season before the sale.

The latest is he canceled on me. Decided he would do it himself. I mailed him the piston I had. Says he got the jugs cleaned out and he is putting it back together.
Here is the best part. He has just joined the forum and posted in the arctic cat 1M section asking for advise as to why it burned down.
His name is tank.. something
Post is toasted piston... check it out.
