So, I sold my 04 king. Got a call from the buyer who says " I got .8 of a mile up the trail and it stuck the mag side piston. Can I bring it back and get my money back" ?
So, WTF should I do here ????

I have ridden the sled twice this year, Absolutely NO problems at all, Not even a cough.

I told him that if he wants to bring it to me I will put a new piston in it for him. But I can't give him is money back.

Things are sold AS IS. This is weird. that is a great running sled i bet he tried the nos right off the bat and held it down.

Putting a new piston in is honorable and right. A lesson in heat soaking an engine is also prudent. Damn snowmobiles! Even when you don't own them they end up costing you money.

Maybe he cold seized it? That is probably how far it would get if you just started it up and took off without warming it up. Tough spot to be in for sure.

I think buying him a new piston is tooooo nice!

SOLD is SOLD! You know it was a solid sled and ran good, why pay for his mistake?

It could have more serious problems than a piston now that he burnt it up.

That's a tough spot to be in. Most of us understand the risk of buying used, but I would feel bad for the guy who just bought it. Try to get more info out of him, warm up, gas, elevation, etc..

I think parts is generous, then point him in the right direction for labor and wash your hands of it. If you or a personal friend do the labor, you'll be "married" to that sled everytime something goes wrong with it.

If I were in the buyers shoes I would be happy if someone would do a piston
and help me get the thing running. In the sellers shoes I think trying to help fix it is as good as it gets. Bad situation for everybody on this one.

I agree, but the problem with getting more information is that you are relying on what he tells you which is not always an indicator of what actually happened. Unfortunately too many people will give information that protects their best interest (their pocket book).

I cant wait to see if it has nos in the bottle cause it was empty when it left here. I just put a 14:1 head on it and told him it wasn't a good idea to run nos with that head on it. But he wanted the head and the nos on it when he bought it. I offered to take one or the other off and discount the sled price at sale.
As I talked to him it sounds like it over heated.

Agreed this could turn into a marriage for EVER and that is NOT what I want !!

tough spot for sure but I agree with sold means sold, if it was a solid sled for you for years and on the first ride out the new guy locks up one side....not your problem it's part of the sport that we all love so much. Stock sucks but mod sucks worse when the go down :)

He cold seized it for sure, I did the exact same thing on my 04 King Cat.

Sold is sold, he made the mistake of not letting it warm up, but if it was me, I would buy him a piston. If he is a jerk about it, I would keep the piston and tell him to get lost.

I would buy the piston and no further. Unless it was duner then I would tell him to gfysdb:)

I sold a 97 rmk 700 to a younger kid 17/18. The throttle was sticky and we agreed I would come off the price the cost of the cable and he would install.... Great well then I get a call from his f'ing mother threatening me that her hubby is a sheriff and that I sold her son a broken sled and that I better be making it right and that her man was a sheriff and I better do the right thing and that her husband was a sheriff you get the drift well I told this lunatic biotch that I was done talking to her that the sled was sold as is and to have her son call me. Well he said he unloaded it on the mtn and that it wouldn't go. Rev up but like the clutches were shot. So I said I'll meet you down and my dealer take a looksy and if the clutches are jacked I'll take care of it but if his mommy called me again he could shove that sled up his arse. So met him at tri city mechanic comes looken and says ya clutches could use some love but not the problem. Come to find out when the kid installed the throttle cable he did not hook it up right in one of the carbs and was only fueling one cyl. But be the stand up guy I am told the kid I would pay to have the clutches serviced IF he had his f'ing biotch mommy call me back and apologize. Stupid *^%# never called. Not sure if her little baby boy ever told her the truth but I can only hope he is on here now and realizes what a little douche bag he was and what a f'ing whore bitch his mommy is!!!!!

After a little more thought on the root of this thread I say sold is sold you warned him about the head and noss and he didn't listen. As is

You would get on your knees and suck it!!! you little biooootch!!!!

And one more thing!! You better quit calling my mom names, my dad is a sheriff so you better apologize! I hooked those cables up right you mutha chucker!

sold is sold. I bought an 03 edge in 05. The first ride out the crank breaks and takes out the bottom end. I called the guy and asked if he would atleast help with the repair and he laughed in my face. I learned right then and there that SOLD is SOLD

Agree with the cold seize.
You would be a great guy if you bought a piston, but when money exchanged hands the deal was done, Sold and no longer your sled.
SOLD AS IS.
Did he take it for a test drive and was it driven on the trailer, if so it ran fine when it left your place.
