Help with 05 rt1000

A buddy of mine has a 05 rt 1000 all stock and has had it to some dealers a couple of times now and even though they say it is fixed, it is not.

The sled won't hit full shift rpm and then goes into a limp mode. Seems to start and run okay most of the time, but fouls plugs and then won't start. The dealer says that its the electronic rave valves?????? but after they supposedly fix it, it still won't start or if it does, it won't hit shift speed.

Does anyone have any ideas here? We are leaving in a couple days for a trip and would like to get this resolved.

Thanks for the help.

Put it up on a track stand, pull the little plastic cover off of the side of the cyl. and watch the e-rave actuator/cables/pulleys move as you rev it to approx 6500-7500 rpm. The first time you rev it the e-rave should sense tension on the cables, and it will move slow. The next time you rev it up, the acutator should move quickly, if it does not, then there is something binding (cables, dirty/gummy valves, not adjusted correctly)

Look at the gap on the e-rave actuator of both of the ends of the cables, they should be adjusted pretty close to the same (within a couple of mm's.) If not, could be just a simple cable adjustment. Could be something like melted plastic gears in the rack of raves.

Yeah something is wrong with the ERAVE system as 6800 is when the eraves open or somewhere right around there.

6800 rpms. mine did the same thing last year. check the load fuses. if theyre blown, you might be experiencing a short in the grip heater wiring. try unplugging them at the quick clips on the handle bars and put replace the fuses and see what happens.

Also could be a stuck relay or blown fuse for the e-rave actuator. Sometimes a quick relay swap is the easiest way to diag. Sometimes banging the relay on a hard surface can help a sticky relay or if you're cheap you can pop the cover off and clean the contacts.

All the advice given is good stuff. I like to silicon the covers of the relays and dialectric grease the terminals. The location of the fuse/relay box on the RT's is not the best for snow ingestion hence the reason for the the relay issues on these monsters.
