What people dont realize is that an avy pack doesn't stop your azz from getting beat on the rocks and trees. Sure it might help you stick a little closer to the top so any help is good, the best piece of equipment you can have is your brain. Dont put yourself in those positions.

And to the guys that ride with others who dont have the proper gear, give your pack to them. Why do you need to carry gear on your back to save them, when they dont care enough about you to carry the gear to save your life? DONT RIDE WITH SOMEONE WITHOUT PROPER GEAR..PERIOD.

Also keep your gear on your back. If you ever get seperated from your machine in a slide at least you have your gear with you to help dig someone else out. Under your hood or strapped to your tunnel is the wrong place.

I am no saint, and am not trying to preach, and I know this has been said a million times, but the word must get out there cause guys are still dying. I just think we can all do our part to help prevent someone from loosing a life.

That video makes me want to barf!

It stresses me out just watching that......

How to be fortunate and unfortunate all at the same time.

Sobering.... YES! A big thanks to the OP, videos like this help keep our priorities straight.

Avy's scare the heck out of me, and no less after watching that video. I'm positive I would have been panicking if that had been me, and would have cried if I were saved. If you get buried, you only have a 50% chance of survival, according to the Alaska Avalanche School. That's what would be running through my head, too.

Most of the people I ride with carry beacons, but unfortunately most of them have never practiced with them AT ALL. I don't want to trust my life to them. I know, after my recent training, that I'm in a much better position to find a buried friend with a beacon but I also know that it depends how far down they are buried and how fast you can shovel.

All in all, I still plan to avoid avy's at all costs. I don't want to be in one, and I don't want someone else's life to depend on how fast I can find them and how fast I can dig. I will train for it, but with the hopes I'll never use it in real life.
