Headed up to ride the new XM.

wow you must be one diehard doo guy to like your 12 over the pro. kind of takes away any credibility to your post about the 13...

I'm a yammie guy, so no bias. I rode 12 pro and 12 xp same hill same day. No chance I'd take the pro over the doo. The extra horsepower of the doo is much more important to me than the handling of the pro. It wasn't even close in deep bc pow how much better the doo went.

I agree, the apparent lack of power from the Pro is a concern. especially after you have ridden "other" sleds that have the power that will rocket you up the hill "accelerating" vs. "chugging"..

Fortunately, we have addressed this issue and I can tell you one thing.. Once you get the power in the Pro chassis, it completely transforms the sled!

The fun factor rises considerably..

Pro + added HP = 1 fine sled!!

Although the Doo and Cat are great sleds as well!

I'm glad to read a first rate review from a Doo guy on a Doo sled in a Polaris post! Hey are you trying to get us to have a"melt down"? All I see with your review is alot of POO stirring.

Been reading this post.. good btw..

Ever notice how on a Sunday you actually get (some) unbiased, logical posts on here but on any evening, say after 10pm (and a few drinks I'm sure) you see some flat ignorant, brand loyal, biased, pi**ed off people making unlogical posts? :face-icon-small-ton

just gotta wonder what fred is gonna do now..he hates the poos handling, and if the new doo is anything like the poo?..

This brings up a good point because I certainly don't like how the XP handles and felt really heavy in the powder. Just don't want to work that hard. Anyway a lot of the guys I know that ride the XP and are all about ski-doo really like the way the XP handles. So if the XM pulls over easier and is easier to ride how many doo guys are not going to like that then. Because a lot of them I know don't like the Pro because it is too easy to pull over and they usually fall off. I'm sure because it says ski-doo on the side most will force themselves to get one and they will fall in love with it.

I wonder how much more fun teh 2013 Pro will be with its 50lb weight difference. Sound like we have some good choices for 2013. Although I will still be riding my 2012 next year.

I rode the XM too....pretty much the same conclusion that Mr Murder came too.
A good blend of the best qualities of the Xp and the Pro.
The only thing it could use is a 30 lb weight loss...but it feels a lot lighter than a xp...until its stuck them they are all heavy.

wb, so what are your thoughts on the rear suspension ? Do you feel the pivoting section will be high maintenance ?

If i hadnt seen pics of it, i wouldnt have known it tips. It doesnt move much and that heim joint that looks like a weak link is probably stronger than the surrounding structure. We trust them on the a-arms so i do see it being an issue. Time will tell.

Here we go. Man I don't get this brand loyalty to the point of attack. I haven't been sledding for that long. I don't have any real loyalty to anyone but my dealer because I have gotten such great service. All this is a review. It is not right or wrong. Just my impressions. I don't get how people say that I am biased. I am not trying to sway anyone to buy Doo and I certainly never bad mouthed the Pro. It's like the Pro owners(and I am one of them) think I told them they had an ugly baby. I agree that it wasn't a great test day too. All the new sleds are easy to ride in deep snow. I will get out again on a tougher riding day on both sleds and try them again. Last, someone posted that the 13 Pro was going to be "a lot" better than the 12. I don't think 14 lbs and a belt drive is a lot better. Better yes but I won't be trading up my 12 pro. I figure it will be about $3000 difference for 14 pounds and a belt drive.

good reveiw matt..did you guys get it on any steep stuff that wasnt 2 foot of pow?...the harder/shallower depths on the steep stuff is where the xp always gave me fits..they all handle like a dream in deep snow...great reveiw, definately want to hang a leg over one....

This is my biggest concern. I would like to demo the XM in spring conditions and see how it does. I loved my XP on the deep days, not so much on the hard pack.

Thanks for the review btw.

About time Doo got it right again(apparently)

Have not been impressed with anything they have done since the 06 Rev.

Absolutely loving my 12 Pro and find myself doing things I never thought was possible.

Good job by the manufacturers bringing us better toys!

06 rev, I still got mine and plan to hang onto it for a while

Been a loyal doo fan myself and recently just purchased a pro. I know doo has always tried to be trend setting but lets look back at when the rev first came out.

Everyone remember the beaver tail???? I see this pivoting track and suspension, being that. In 2-3 years, I could see a pivoting suspension delete kit.

Does anyone know if they beefed up there bulk heads or spindles???? because the revs have always krinkled on impact.

How bout guys wanted to replace ripped up torn tracks in the 2-3 yr of ownership, you think that track is gonna be cheaper then a series 5.1? sure not gonna be a lot on craigslist.

To me, I like being back on some minnesotan engineered machine, that plain simple "works".

I was up at GC today as well, got a ride of the new 2013 XM and also had my first ever ride of 2012 Pro RMK. I'm a total set of fresh eyes as I'd never ridden either one. I'm in the market for a new sled for next year and hadn't even considered the XM.

In the end, one of the sleds just fit ME better and felt natural from the get go. It's all about what works for you. Thanks I-90 and Alpine Assassins dude that let me ride your sled.

Not to mention pow was all time today. Such a killer day!

I rode the XM today and I absolutely hated it. It was a nightmare on the trails and had its own mind going up a steep hill in DEEP snow with trees. I have never been on such an unstable sled. I went and tightened up the fronts and rears since I am 230 because I felt it was to "loose" for me. This did help but I would have tried many more lines with the xp and especially the pro. The pro makes me feel like a better rider, the xm I felt like I was drunk or something...I just couldn't get the feel of this new suspension. I think its a love it or hate it thing...really no in between. Mark me down for hate it.

I don't think anyone is really trashing on your review but there will always be someone. I think your review is awesome. Would I buy a xm over a pro, based on your review, no. If it is true that you like a freeride better than the pro That tells me that we are two different types of riders because I hate the xp. Too much weight too far forward and the 16 wide track are what screws it for me. The narrow stance and the rest are a band aid for a chassis problem. Shouldn't have to go 3 inches narrower to TRY and achieve the same thing. I won't completely trash on the xm because I have'nt rode one. Who knows, maybe I would like it better than a pro. They will have to get rid of the heavy handling. That includes the skis feeling like there are bricks hanging off them when countersteering. I appreciate the review but it would take a lot to get me off the pro. That, I won't take anyones word for. As far as the 13 pro goes, I don't think a bunch of people realize how much 14 pounds to an already light sled is going to make. I think it will be a noticeable difference. I have 2 pros. One is an 11 turbo and the other is a stock 12. When riding the 12, all day, and you switch to the 11 you can feel the front end weight. Granted when your on the gas it is light as a feather but there is a difference. I assume I added 20 pounds to the front end. Every bit helps when you play hard in the trees all day. It would be easy to get it to 400. I didn't say cheap. That is huge. I hope the xm is awesome but as far as a pro killer, it will come down to rider. The people who love the xm better thank poo and cat for making it what it is.

So what will you be snowchecking? And what were your like's and dislikes?

That was a good review Matte. But I have noticed that you favor the XP chassis over the Pro in other posts. Nothing wrong with that but it does make me realize that I might not agree with your opinion of the XM. I want to ride one very badly. I went to the Doo site looking for rides in Colorado. I would jump ship if I liked it better than the Pro. Too bad I can't do both like you!
