Grand Lake

My friends drove from Garden City and Kansas City , Kansas. We all had a blast in the Grand Lake snow.

Sometimes life is what you make of it.

Yes, Sometimes when the snow is crap, we tend to enjoy hanging out with old friends and that makes up for it.

PJ Nobody is doubting that WC has more snow said:
I just did, and I can tell you with certainty that there's way more than 12" in most spots.

There are spots that suck, and there are also plenty of spots that have a decent chunk of snow.

This wasn't the deepest we found by any means, but it was a whole hillside with THREE tracks on it when I got there... this is indicative of what you'll find up there.

No, it's not 4' of blower, but like I said, this wasn't the deepest I found, and it was completely out in the open.

Sure beats spending 12 hours in the truck to drive to wolf creek imo.

btw, every track you see in the vid was from me.

A decent day sledding beats a good day on snowest. ;)

Friend of mine has been riding there all week. Just called & said he overheated the motor & warped the head. Was asking if I had a spare. I suggested some ice scrathers while he's @ it.:face-icon-small-con

MIGHT want to show him where the temp light is on his sled as well, or explain that there's pow on the SIDE of the trail...

Hmm

If your looking at the snotel and stillwater pass is your reference for riding around the grand lake area keep thinking that. It sucks this year just like everywhere else north of WC or south of Revelstoke but I know one of the snotels where I ride is closer to the south than you might think. You gotta do miles of trail riding to get there and its still not that great but were having fun and racking up the miles.
Lack of snow sucks and I fully admit its bad here this season and if it keeps up we won't be riding at all soon. Grand Lake has decent trail riding right now and thats about it. Unless you know where to go and its uber risky and just okay. Not worthy of a trip across the country or even across the county.
If your not riding at all and hate trail riding go somewhere else. If you don't mind dealing with some trail riding for those 5 pow turns then see you out there and thanks for supporting the local economy.

70cm at the base of Gravel at 4:00p.m. today. And somebody searched for me on Classmates.com!!!! Maybe an old girlfriend? ohhhhhh im gonna get lucky!!!

Thank you very much for the info. As a snowmobiler who has to travel to ride at all, whether it be trails in WI or backcountry in the West, I appreciate somebody with a semi positive outlook. There are guys who hate the conditions now (understandable) and there are others who take what mother nature has given so far. Having to plan trips to CO months in advance, it sucks to see people so negative towards a post simply asking if it is worth the drive (in their opinion) from the Midwest.

I love coming out there. I love spending my money there. I love supporting the local business'. I love the great people that always seem to be around there. I love supporting snowmobiling and all that it stands for.

My pleasure. Just understand its pretty terrible this season, might even be the worst I've seen so far but I'm still having fun and beats not snowmobiling. Coming to Grand lake is a good cause regardless of the snow conditions. Its the only town in CO that actively supports snowmobiling that I know of. I was just looking at the local real estate listings and they all mention the killer sledding or pull through garages. I'm stoked to live in an area that supports it as much as it does.
Good luck finding those pow turns and be safe out there. If it does snow soon the AVY conditions are going to be nasty.

Thanks

Big thanks to all of you for supporting snowmobiling and the local economy here
in Grand County. I know I appreciate it as I'm sure alot of others do.
Conditions now don't support QUALITY riding but its still spinning the track.
Hopefully soon it will change and we will see more scenes like these pic's from last year.

How horrible!! You had snow all over your sled! It must have really sucked. hehehe.

Planning on going to Grand county tomorrow to go ride some sub-par snow & maybe even stimulate the economy some. It's probably going to suck.:lie:
