Grand Lake

If you friend or like Grandlake Trailgroomers on facebook you can get good updates regularly. This is from a post on Monday I think, Cam the groomer gives great updates with good detail regularly.

GrandLake Trailgroomers There is rideable snow from Idleglenn, leaving out of Kawuneeche Rd is the best option. North facing areas/meadows at upper elevations hold the better snow. We had about 2-3" of new on Saturday at higher elevations. Early season conditions all around, not like last year at this time, but enough snow to ride. Cool and cloudy today. Hopefully a bit of snow this week. Town trail is not open due to lack of lower elevation snow.

Not so good. But, pretty much same as the rest of North CO. Idleglenn is the only access open now. I'll be there in a couple days, and I swear I'm gonna ride rocks if I have to. I'm done with waiting.

my friends are sledding in Grand Lake till tmw. (been there since sunday). Just received text message from him, he say its kinda sucks here, pretty much less than last year but still enough to ride on.

We're staying near there tomorrow night, not that concerned with the sledding being that great, we pretty much know it's going to be less than ideal.

Not much snow, FAR less than ideal.

We rode 30 miles from there today, and experienced some AWESOME snow... for mid October.:face-icon-small-dis

So we'd be looking at making a trek from Iowa, we're not looking for an extreme backcountry adventure but would really like to get on the sleds. We'll be hoping for some more snow but the forecast out there didn't look to promising. Does Grand Lake generate any Lake Effect Snow like the U.P.?

Here's a little real world prospective, My winter Business is snow removal in Grand county. The last time we got 3" of snow and had to get out of bed to snow plow was Nov 19th. If you really coming from Iowa? I'd bring you 4wheeler if you want to ride GL.

What they call lakes in Colorado would be called ponds in most places. There is no body of water in CO that is large enough to generate any snow. You'd probably be entertained by the crowds on the water here in the summer.

You can shoot a .22 across Grand Lake and it will freeze solid from shore to shore in one day. The only weather effect it has is fog on a cool morning.

Ill be up there with friends from Kansas this week. I don't expect great snow but we will certainly make the best of it.:face-icon-small-coo

The Grand Lake Area is 'ride-able' at this point. If your wanting to go off-trail and shoot some personal 'Schooled' video, you'd better bring a whole bunch of extra A-arms and maybe even a back-up sled.

For those of you wanting a good method of predicting the future of Grand Lake's snow storms, here's a simple rule of thumb: Watch the weather coming on to the North West Coast (Washington and Oregon). When a good size storm hits that area, Grand Lake and the Northern Rockies will usually get some good snow. However, if a good size storm hits California, then that storm almost ALWAYS stays South and goes over Southern Colorado and Arizona/New Mexico with very few exceptions. :face-icon-small-hap

So, you are saying we may get a flurry or two soon?

I hope your right cause they (weather guessers) have been hinting towards a change in a pacific flow causing storms to come in the north west, like more winter storms did last year.
