Gould to Grand Lake for an overnight

Planning on unloading in Gould and riding to Grand lake to spend the night.

I can't find a good map that shows this trail from start to finish... is the trail well marked? Is the trail typically well maintained? Any idea how long this trip takes? Any tough spots that will be hard for inexperienced riders?

Thanks

hope you have a place to stay that is not in town as the Nation Park has closed their section of the trail that links the trial system with the town. That is, you can't get to town on your sled now. Here is the site for the colorado snowmobile association website, there are maps of allot of the trails systems there. The info on Grand Lake trail system is up to date.

It was low snow when we were trying this ride a couple of weeks ago.

Usually the CO state parks have decent maps of the area that you can get at the moose viewing center in Gould on Rt 14 and the trails are usually in good shape and well marked. There are a lot of rentals that use that area

The RMNP trail into town is closed simply due to low snow. It'll reopen after 8-12 inches of new come. A place to stay would be Winding River Resort, which is close to the N.Supply trailhead. (Don't need to ge into town, and can ride right to it)

Not going until the end of the month (28th) so hopefully more snow will fall by then opening the trail to town. Plan on fueling up in GL before we head back.

Any idea how many miles and/or how long this trip will take?

Did that ride years ago, went there had a burger filled up with gas and headed back. We were thinking about getting a room b/c it was a haul. Had a sled break down before getting back over Illinois pass and we couldn't tow it up the hill and over the pass (came back the next day and got to it from hwy 125). Illinois pass is the toughest part of the ride. I just looked at trail map and it shows it groomed, years ago it wasn't groomed and we were sure glad when we hit the GL trail system. Have fun.

We do this at least once a year. A little over 100 miles round trip. Take a camera, lots to see. There and back my Yamaha used just over 1/4 tank of gas. Buddies Cat used 1/2 tank. They should be getting snow there now and more this week. If you do it in one day, buing Ibuprophin. The Walden/Gould map will get you to Stillwater Road. The Grand Lake map will get you to town. Both are good trails and pretty well marked and groomed usually about once a week depending on new snow.

Is there any good snow in Gould Yet??? Did that ride in one day....if you don't play around much it is pretty easy....illinois trail ussually rough but had my wife on a trail sled and it was no problem.....

Gould has snow, and they should be getting more in the next couple of days. If you do it in one day, you won't want to play much. Comming down the South side of Illinois pass can get tough, but once the groomer has hit it once it's fine.
